I just realized that my cross is 7+ seconds and the only thing keeping me sub30 is an average F2l and full PLL....

any cross building tips? I just recently grasped the concept of using Uw and Dw turns in the cross....

Examining it closely before you start.

At first, I used to just go for it. Now when I "Study" it, I try to know exactly how to place the edges of the cross. Got me from about that time, to 3 seconds for the cross.

Look closely.

Yes you should be able to plan out your whole cross in your 15 second inspection. If you can't do it in 15 seconds then just take longer and practice seeing the whole thing before you even start solving it and move your way up to seeing it faster.

furthering what has been said...

I read somewhere on here to learn to practice it with your eyes closed (after the close inspection of course). Later on this means your eyes can be looking around for f2l peices.

1. are you doing the cross on the bottom?

2. How do you build the cross?

When i first started I matched up the bottom edges to the corrosponding color then put them in the D layer. After time and practice you just seem to come up with other ways to do it.

Its important (an dhelps alot) to know the color scheme without looking

Dan Harris has a great tut for the cross at cubestation.co.uk (HERE)

It's mostly 'basic' stuff... but it really helps you to see where the pieces go in relation to each other.
