Speedcubing should be a sport

If you want any substantial help, without us basically writing it for you, then you're gonna need to, at minimum, have some basic talking points. Why do you think it should be a sport, is there anything that is holding it back, history of other non-traditional events becoming sports, etc. If you don't have these basic starting points then there isn't much we can help with aside from our own personal views, or writing it for you.

i kind of think its on the border line of "fun hobby" and "sport".

- Not the biggest hobby/sport thing, but there is definately a large amount of cubers
- like most sports, its mostly skill based, but luck can play apart in good results
- we have a governing body
- alot of countries have competitors, idk the specifics but i think 100 + countries.
- and we have chess, which is purely mental, so why not cubing ?
idk, most things im saying have already been said, but if i think of more ill edit the post
also note, like this post below, dont completely rely on us to do ur essay pls (i dont think thats the case, you just wanted some help)

speedcubing should be a sport because when you are practicing speedcubing you can develop fat tissues and pain in the backs and in the arms. but when you are practicing sports, this improve health condition and eliminates body fat. thats why speedcubing should be a sport, and not a silly kids hobby like it is
So thats why i dont see any chess players that call it a sport built like a big mac

It has a competitive nature, requires skill, you have to possess a considerable amount of knowledge to be competitive, and there are governing rules. those are decent proofs if your doing a 5pt essay
waiting in the line for a bus is a sport according to this, and has more physical effort put into than speedcubing

please make a research on this thread, is all you need because this was already broadly discussed before

triple post but bro deleted the first one

this could turn into a “cubing = sport or not?” discussion thread

I feel like a better way to put the question is: “Can cubing become a sport?” Rather than “Cubing should be a sport”
Only an 18 day bump... though I suppose the latter half of your sentence is a valid point.
Sorry, I only said this because I believe there’s another thread with this same topic,no?

Too lazy to write an essay but ill do one in a bit.
The same way chess is now considered a sport, cubing should technically be one too...chess only involves the brain, but cubing also requires turning speed..
If the WCA succeeds in getting cubing into the olympics, then ig more ppl will agree

I know this is a controversial take, and I still respect that many people want cubing to be an IOC-recognized sport; but my personal opinion is that speedcubing should not be considered a sport like other IOC-recognized activities. I have mixed opinions on chess, but there's a key distinguishing factor between chess (or even cup stacking) and speedcubing:

Chess matches have identical setup conditions. All pieces are set at the exact same location every game, and time limits are set increments. It's a blank slate in that sense, as are nearly all sports with measured results by the IOC. Cubing records can be greatly scramble based--measured olympic records are based on one's ability (or a group's, in a relay for example) to conduct the same standardized task, be that running a set distance, jumping a certain height, etc. Of course, everyone solves the same type of puzzle, but not everyone starts with the exact same scrambled state.
