I'm back. Sorry about the long break, I've had a lot of crap go down the last, wow... over two years. I decided to pick my cube back up (unfortunately I only have my 4x4x4, I think my 3x3x3 got lost when I moved), brush the dust off, and see what I still remembered, and I was quite disappointed. I still have all the 3x3x3 components down, except for some of the 3 look last layer perms, but thats it.

Damn this place has grown. I remember when I was lucky to see even 5 people on at the same time as me, before the forum move. So whats new?

Welcome back, a lot has changed since [insert last time you were here].
Everything is new now. The most notable thing is how many people are now sub 10 3x3.

To expand on that, Erik Akkersdijk has the 3x3 world record at 7.08 seconds.
Now the WR average on 3x3 is 10.07 seconds by Tomasz Zolnowski.
Yeah.
Welcome back once again!

More like sub 12 I can only think of Faz and Rowe but welcome back, hope you can get a new 3x3 soon.

Wow, sub 10 you say. When I left I was amazed at anyone sub 20. I remember unofficial records of around 7 sec, but I just figured it was either lucky, or exaggerated, or a bit of both.

This got seven replies when I just put the laptop down and got some tea. This place has grown.

edit: there was another while I was typing. damn

I doubt that I was here when you left, but welcome.

Things you should know:

-There is now very little informative content on the forum.
-It is far too populated and there are far too few members who contribute productively.
-Be very careful about what you post. If you make repeated errors, you will not see the end of it.

Related: Out of the seven people who have replied to this thread, I am almost certain that five never even came close to coinciding with you on the forum. I find this strange.

That sounds like a high estimate for me. I just got a welcome to speedsolving.com pm lol.

apoplectic,

As JTW2007 has stated, this place is usually not a good place for learning for cubing-related things, but once in a blue moon, a good thread will pop up that actually brings up an interesting point, but it is sadly then crushed by useless posts, a debate, or someone's overall incompetence. In the past year and a half, I've been growing sad, seeing the value of these forums increasingly diminishing. If you want good information, I'd suggest either checking out the 'new' speedsolving wiki, logging onto #, or browsing on the main forums and hoping for something worthwhile.

Also, within the past 2 years, people have been expanding methods; I'd suggest you check this out: http://www.speedsolving.com/wiki/index.php/Methods

Sincerely,
Stachu Korick

For people looking for information on the cube or any speedsolving techniques, I think this is a great place to find it. When I was new to cubing, I wanted a central place to find, share, and discuss the information. I still think it serves that purpose. It has also grown to serve the purpose of discussion results of competitions, and organizing details of competitions.

Obviously, as the # of members increase, the quality is going to go down. The only way to avoid this is to stop new registrations and slowly filter out people who don't contribute positively. One way to prevent as many worthless threads is to moderate them and move them to their appropriate sections accordingly. These topics have been discussed many, many times, and I don't think this thread is a good place to discuss them further.

Keep in the mind, the quality of the posts is controlled by people like you and me, the members.
