[Help Thread] Skewb Discussion

Really? I've never had that problem. I've never had any stickers peel off, except on Rubik's brands, and I've not needed to replace any stickers. I've not restickered a cube in two and a half years of cubing.

E: Here's my main after one and a half years: http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06/20/1095c37e80d44fdd6e5b00c4a13d325a.jpg

three stickers fell off my 5 month old weilong yesterday. all orange too what. luckily, moyu has really gooey stickers so i just stuck em back...

Oh yeah, MoYu stickers aren't great. They slide around way too much. I don't use MoYu cubes very often though (only been doing 2x2/3x3/Pyra recently, and I don't have a MoYu Pyraminx), so that's not a problem for me except 4x4.

My MoYu skewb has arrived earlier today and I wonder what are the advantages and disadvantages of each of the following methods:

Sarah's
Ranzha's
Meep.

Also, I am finding the countless notation systems an absolute nightmare.

Sarah's:
Easy concept to understand.
Only requires at minimum. 2 algs, both of which are 4 moves long and are comms. The others are a z-perm which is the only hard alg really and a U-perm which is sledge y2 sledge.
Easy recognition.
Ranzha's:
Edges before corners can be a nightmare e.g if you end up with an alternate z-perm and pure peanut.
Requires a decent number of algs.
Harder to look ahead in inspection/ harder to one-look.
Kir-Meep:
Very basic and easy to understand.
Lots of algs.
Difficult fingertricks for L5C
Optimal algs (I think)

Overall, I think that Sarah's is the best as it is easy to get fast with and there are lots of algs for LL cases of you really want to get fast. It has Sarah's beginners (kinda like kir-meep), Sarah's intermediate (4 algs this time) and Sarah's advanced (lots of patterns to know, but quite easy to figure out).

Most fast people use Sarah's intermediate and Sarah's advanced with algs.

You only need sledge to solve skewb (one alg).

Hello,

I have been solving the Skewb for a while now with the Kirjava Meep method, but I can't seem to get any faster. I average around 10 - 11 seconds. I've been told to switch to Sarah's Intermediate Skewb Method, so I would like to know whether those are the optimal algorithms for each case, and if they aren't, what are the optimal algorithms? I know the algorithms provided are probably the fastest, but I would just like to know anyway. Also, how do I generate my own Skewb algorithms?

Thank you!

No, Sarah's intermediate does not use optimal algs. It only uses combinations of sledgehammer and hedgeslammer, but very efficiently. Sarah's advanced method uses the optimal number of hedges and sledges for every last layer case, and then there are methods such as KK and NS which use optimal (or near optimal) algs to solve the last layer of sarah's advanced.

Edges before corners is easy mode. True patrician RSM uses hedge/sledge hax (plus some other tricks) and algs for the cases that can't be solved efficiently with hax.
One-looking is near-impossible, but 2-looking isn't.

Another awesome advantage about RSM is that I don't mind personally teaching you everything I know. Just ask Ryan Przybocki!

yeah trust ryan. hes rlly good. like rllllllly good.

First timed skewb Ao5 ever for me! I learnt sarah's beginner's yesterday night and evidently my times are awful. Please consider this.
