[Help Thread] Skewb Discussion

Looking for a good alg for the first case Tim Major mentions and the other Pi + Z case. Anyone got any of those? (Preferable with layer on top because i'm weird like that)

(Hideki notation)

I use B' R' r' F r B' r R y' r' l (alg I found on Hideki's site and modified slightly)

I can get about 2.9 on it, and I get about 2.5-3 for Z-perm (r l' U' l U l r l' r) so I think someone with high TPS could get low-mid 1 on B' R' r' F r B' r R y' r' l

I haven't found a good alg for the other Pi+Z-perm alg, the alg I'm using takes me 4.5~ which is "worth it" but hardly (double sledge+Z-perm is 5~)

Anyone got a better alg for it? For my method I need an alg for each Pi+Z case, the 2 other cases I showed (though double sledge y/y' triple sledge works for now), 2 other Pi cases and 2 L cases and I think I'll be averaging about 7s with my awful TPS. 8 algs, sledge and hedge+lots of hacky intuition, and I feel with Antoine/Rami's TPS this current iteration of my method could be quite fast.

I'll edit this post with algs if I manage to work out a-cube later.

I am finally getting a LanLan skewb tomorrow!
What method would you guys suggest? I think I am leaning towards Sarah's beginner method but i wanna know your guys' opinions.

I'd go with Sarah's Beginner method first, then you can learn some of the intermediate algs. It's a very easy method to learn.

Are there any skewb solving prorammes?

I'm starting skewb and interested to see what can be done to permute centres when inserting the last corner of a layer, but I haven't had any success in generating algs by hand.

http://www.ultimatemagiccube.com/ You can try that program and make a skewb in it and play around with it.

Ksolve+ will be your best friend then! A quick search will get you to that thread, and I posted some def files for skewb on a later page.

Has anyone explored method neutrality with Skewb? I use Sarah's intermediate (w/ some tricks) but I have noticed recently that Petrus block skips happen fairly often, at least for me.

This rarely happens for me.
Sometimes I end up with one of the nice pure CLS cases or an acubist case and just do them.

This is such a great program.

Using your FCN definition, I am attempting to for example solve the case where three corners (1, 3, 6 in your definition) need a clockwise twist, disregarding centres. This is my scramble file and it searches, but finds no solutions:

Code:
Scramble Sune136
corners
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
2 0 2 0 0 2 0 0
centres
?1 ?2 ?3 ?4 ?5 ?6
End

I hope this is the right place to ask this!

EDIT: Never mind, I got it to work with FCeN instead.

I'm now looking at a method which solves one tetrad first while permuting the second (normally 4 moves), orients the second (about 6-8 moves), and then does centres. I haven't looked at L6C yet, but the first step is intuitive and the second has just a few cases which are rapid and often involve good fingertricks.

Question is, does this exist already and does it sound promising to anybody more experienced in skewb?

So........ What'd I Miss?

Hello people! XD
I started in January, then took a great long 7 month break from skewbing, and now that things have settled, I am back.
I use Sarah Intermediate, averaging around 12 seconds, and what I noticed is Ranzha is the WR holder for single now (along with Kloso). I noticed since Ranzhas method was the one I initially started to practice but it was kinda complex for me so i switched to Sarahs.

So anyway, anyone kind enough to point out things I missed? Like, improvements in methods, variations, tricks etc? I know i could search the forums for the same but I kinda wanted your crisp inputs!

XD

I got 4.54 WR average, first one ever to beat Jonatan. The week after, he gets 3.15 WR average -_______________________________________________________-

Hax for my method is basically done

Antoine had WR for a week, then Jonatan got 3.15 wr, I got 3.76 NAR.

Does anyone have some good algs for the last 3 Sarah's intermediate cases and Z perm?

Edit: also, how do you make text a link? It was supposed to say "the last 3" where the link is instead of showing the link.
Edit2: OOPS. I switched the URL and the text. Fixed.

For pure peanut, here's the notation.

Edit: Just realized you might mean when you do that case and get a Z perm. For peanut, that should be a 3 sledge case found here. For the others, just do the mirror and you will get a U perm.
