I think custom is where it is at. Because most people are going to get a $25 Lubed, Tensioned, Magnetic cube from SCS or TheCubicle.us other than a HC from a student. Do you see what I'm saying. They are more trusted until you prove yourself, but if nobody buys, then trust will never come. However somebody like @Underwatercuber may be willing to pay $40+ for a clock and others will too. The cubicle is probably not going to make a beastly clock for 5 people, but you can and still make money. And in the future after the trust is built people may choose you over another cube store. That's my opinion.

So you're saying I should HC clocks and such for a unique invent that "rivals" SCS and Cubicle?

I'm saying do something that has a demand, (Clock), there are tons of great 3x3's out there. And lots of people selling them. People with possible lower prices. But selling something unique and different will stand out and hopefully draw customers in.

Just do some expensive cubes on the side for the rich (or people willing to pay 60+ on a cube) and produce a lot of cheaper cubes so most of us can afford.
Our main goal is to produce the affordable cubes. If you want expensive go to Angstrom Research when they come out with them.

You completely misunderstood me. I said you should treat cheaper cubes so they are affordable. Not many of us are ready to bust 40+ usd or whatever on a cube plus shipping. But for the people who can afford it, put a couple expensive cubes (SM, GTS2, Valk and etc) on the side for people who can afford them and so that you don’t run out of money.

So you're saying we should sell the cheaper cubes at such a low price that we make little profit?
-_-

That’s not what I am saying.

I’m saying make you should make your product more
affordable because @Duncan Bannon has a good point. Because your HC is a relatively new product on the cubing market, we don’t have a proper approximation of how much it’s worth, that’s part of where the trust comes in.

Let’s think of it this way:

This random person called Bill sees your thread and gets really interested. It’s a brand new treatment on cubes which he has never seen before. But when he sees the expensive prices and knows that you are brand new in the community, Bill has to consider if it’s worth his money.

Forget my suggestion about your budget, it wasn’t my place to suggest that.

I honestly don't think the prices are that bad. You can buy a YLM for $3 when on sale on thecubicle.us At $14, the cube is still pretty cheap. With a $10 profit - boron expense. I think that 14 is not bad. However there are so many great 3x3's that your chance of selling a lot I think are low. And A new cuber is going to go to thecubicle.us or SCS not Hypercoated cubes.

I want a new cube, I go to thecubicle.us. And I would find a great cube. But thecubicle only sells one clock. I may look elsewhere. And a average 3x3 solver cuber is not going to search all over for a cube. However the average cuber doesn't have a clock, only people that care about clock have a clock. They care, so they may be able to afford and be serious about A $50 Clock.

Back with that clock...
(Would also like to mention I'm in the former category of cubers; I haven't even touched a clock, much less own one)

The points are obvious enough. For a slightly milder example, all known Old Dayan coated cubes are 3x3s. So, at the less perilous task of coating a 2x2, 4x4, Skewb, Pyraminx, etc. (as compared to a clock or say a 6x6 and 7x7), I can have more customers due to the uniqueness without struggling so much as testing the latter.

The clock is just a great example. 2x2, 4x4 Pyra all sound good as well, but I think the demand for a good clock is higher.

I will admit these Boron Cubes are not that amazing OOTB, but they become so great after a little break-in(maybe 25 solves), that they completely dwarf the stock cube in performance.

My two cents:
1) If the boron-treated cubes get that much better in so short a time, then take the 10-15 minutes to do 25 solves on it. If you can add that to your advertising, claim that OOTB this cube will be much better, it probably helps the image a bit.
2) I don't know anything about clock, but you should definitely get an idea of what this treatment would do to the clock versus what people want out of the clock. Obviously, clock is an inherently different mechanism than a normal cube, and it sounds like people might be looking for a better internal mechanism for clock rather than for how the material feels. I might be completely misunderstanding the idea, but I think everybody should take a step back to figure out whether this is actually what would help.
I'm personally completely neutral on this idea, just trying to give people a couple things to think about.

Well said. Only thing I need to say is a clarification; Casi's boron treated uses have around 50 solves each before they are sent out. More info on that on his boron thread (Selling Boron Cubes - HyperCube Labs)

Here's a late review of the (discontinued) HC Yuxin Little Magic. This is by 4dfour
"Out of the box, I noticed that some sides of the cube were smoother than others. After breaking the cube in this issue has been resolved and all the sides turns very smoothly. I enjoy the feeling much more than my regular Little Magic. The only thing I don’t like is that the cube seems to be less stable than the original. It could definitely benefit from some magnets. Overall, I would highly recommend this cube and will probably buy more in the future."

Nice job getting a positive review! I wouldn't stick it on page 4 however because a potential buyer may not search through the entire thread to find vouches (try putting it in a spoiler called "reviews" or "vouches" in your first post).

I have the last HC MF3RS2 for sale.
It's not that amazing and is very flexible, so I'll sell it for a discounted price of $15 (and shipping)
All it needs is some break in and it should be perfectly fine.
(Still comes lubed and tensioned)

Why is it the last one? Can you make more?
