sDLfj's Progression Thread

Had a lot of time in the car the past couple days, so I set most of my pb's for the events I practiced. Here are all of the new pb's I set.
Ao5: 16.629
Ao12: 18.037
Ao100: 19.238
Single: 2:13.503
Mo3: 2:22.411
Ao5: 2:20.433 (less than Mo3, lol)
Ao12: 2:27.295
Single: 4:50.427
Mo3: 5:15.170
Ao5: 5:15.431
Ao12: 5:28.763
Single: 2:42.871
Mo3: 3:08.918
Ao5: 3:18.219
Ao12: 3:32.138

Reset a ton of my pb's, but I'll just list the notable ones.
4x4 single: 58.566, my first sub-1, and the solve after this was a 59.166, my only other sub-1, both had only PLL parity.
7x7 single: 8:26.764
Megaminx single: 2:35.545.

I have a comp on saturday, and I should make cutoff of everything except maybe megaminx. Cutoff on mega is 3:15, and I average 3:20.

My comp is tomorrow. I hardly practiced since my last post, so I'm not really prepared. I went rock climbing a couple days ago, and my wrists are sore from that, and I'm noticing a decrease in my tps and turning accuracy. My only goal it to make cutoff in every event, and that should be easy except megaminx, which I don't think I'll make cutoff.

I had my comp today. I PR'd in every event and metric and set a few PB's.

3x3:
I had a super weird first round. The second solve I messed up OLL, had to redo half the F2L, then messed up PLL. By then the timer was almost 30s, so I just DNF'd the solve. The counting 28 ruined the average, but it surprisingly wasn't too bad.

4x4:
These solves were okay, higher than my home average, but not bad.

5x5:
PB single and Ao5, also my first sub-2.

6x6:
PB Mo3.

7x7:
These solves were average.

Megaminx:
I average 3:15 at home, what happened? PB ao5, my old PB was 3:13.91.

My goals now are to: learn CLL and possibly eventually EG, learn OLL, learn L4E, finish my letter pair list and then re-start 3BLD, learn Squan. I'll probably take a short break from cubing (maybe a couple weeks) for a while and only practice lightly. I want to get an official average/mean in every puzzle, and the only one I'm missing is squan.

Wow!!! That’s extremely impressive!!!

I found a comp near me that I'm hoping to sign up for. It has a handful of good events, but the ones that I'm mainly interested in are 3bld and squan. It's in 3 weeks, and I'm hoping to get an average on squan (40s cutoff) and get a 3bld success. There's an outrageous 45 min cutoff for 3bld (it's the same for 4bld and 5bld, which are also there), so I should be able to at least get a success (maybe I'll be careful on the first, and if I get a success, speedsolve the next 2). If I learn squan by then (1:30 time limit), I'll have a result in every WCA puzzle.

I ended up making a basic letter pair sheet for 3bld. It consists of 24 adjectives and 24 animals. For example, ABCD would be angry bear, confused dog. This makes my memo more consistent, since before I wouldn't be sure what letters the object represented (eg. during execution I might not remember if reindeer is RN or RD). So far it makes me more confident during execution and my accuracy is much better. I don't really want to put the time into memorizing my full letter pair list, but it is getting close to being complete.

Goals for Saturday:
2x2: PR average, shouldn't be hard
3x3: PR average, I've gotten much worse at 3x3 since I never practiced, so I don't think this is going to happen
Clock: PR average and single: My average should be easy to beat since I had a counting 18 last time.
Pyraminx: PR average, this should be doable, there's a small chance that I'll make second round, but it's only top 24 that advance.
Skewb: decent average: I had super lucky scrambles last time, so I'm not planning on getting a PR
3BLD: get a success, this should be much more likely than last time. There's also a 45min time limit for 3 solves.

I removed Squan from my registration since I never ended up learning it.

Results from today:
2x2: Easy PR average, good single
3x3: Overall great, first round was 19.31 PR, next round was 17.70 PR, both had sub-17 singles.
Clock: 2 rounds, both with good averages and singles (both rounds were double PR).
Pyra: I got my global down to 7.5 for this comp, and I ended up averaging 6.5-7 at the comp. 6.45 PR average and 4.98 PR single. Made finals
Skewb: Double PR.
3BLD: Didn't show up, it was a few hours before the other events and I didn't practice at all. I wasn't assigned to judge for it, so it wasn't a big deal. I only did 1 solve to practice in a month , and most before that were for the weekly comp.

Overall I'm happy with my results. Before this I had barely practiced since my last comp, and I only did a few practice sessions of about a half hour in the past couple weeks.

I picked back up cubing today. My college classes just ended today, so from now on, my only class ends at 9am. Which should give me plenty of free time. Somehow I was only a few seconds slower, and now after some solving time, I'm faster than before. I just got a 3x3 pb single.
1. 13.060 F R B2 U L' U2 B' R' F2 L2 F' U2 L2 B R2 F2 D2 R2 U'
I don't remember my full solution, but I added the cross solution below and it ended in an OLL skip and a t perm, I almost +2'd it, but it was right on the edge and was just barely good.

I'm planning on signing up for a comp in April that has 2x2, 3x3, 6x6, 7x7, pyra, and 3bld.

3x3 mo3 pb
Time List:
1. 17.366 U' F2 L2 R2 D F2 U F2 U2 L' B D' U R' F' D U R F
2. 13.060 F R B2 U L' U2 B' R' F2 L2 F' U2 L2 B R2 F2 D2 R2 U'
3. 17.298 R' F R2 B2 D2 U' B2 L2 U2 B2 R2 U' F2 D R F' D' B2 U' R' B'

I think I'm going to work on 3x3 OLL and 3bld, but I haven't worked up the motivation to do either yet. I did a 3bld attempt and somehow got a success (7:23). If I work on knowing my letter pairs better and practice I think I can be sub-4.

I haven't been practicing as much as I wanted. I've gotten pretty good with my letter pair recall, I just need to make my memo faster (it takes around 4:00). I learned another dot OLL (OLL 1), so I know both cases with no corners oriented. I got a 2x2 PB of 1.44 (6 moves, not 1-looked).
