sDLfj's Progression Thread

I've been procrastinating finishing learning full PLL. I've known all of it except 3 G perms. I learned those 3 today, so I finally know full PLL. I just need to practice recognition and execution of G perms and I'll start using them in solves.

I just got an insane pyraminx solve, 2.87 which about cut my previous pb in half.
1. 2.872 R B' L' R' L' R L' B l b

I've been setting a lot of pb's, so I'll list my times for the events I've been practicing in the form of single/mo3/ao5/ao12/ao100

2x2: 2.10 / 5.26 / 5.95 / 7.15 / 7.87
3x3: 18.42 / 22.28 / 23.13 / 24.19 / 26.28
4x4: 1:22.82 / 1:32.62 / 1:35.72 / 1:40.46 / --
Pyra: 2.87 / 6.99 / 7.91 / 9.80 / 11.29
Skewb: 5.29 / 10.46 / 10.51 / 13.67 / 16.74

I've been practicing a lot for pyra, since I think that's my best chance of advancing to the finals in a competition. There was a competition near me that I wasn't able to register for, but based on the results, I would've made it to the finals and gotten 12th out of about 45.
I also need to work on efficiency for f2l, I've gotten better, but I still need to improve.

I signed up for that competition and made registration. I am slightly confused because Tymon is signed up for that competition. It's not a huge competition (~100 competitors), and the comp's in Michigan (in the United States for those that don't know).

you can beat Tymon, you only have to B E L I E V E

What comp?

Edit: Never mind, I found it.

Visiting the USA?

take a picture with tymon when you see him :D
With how antisocial I am, I doubt that's happening, but it'll still be cool to see him there.

The comp is on Easter day, so my best guess is that he's in the area visiting family or for something else and signed up for it since he was in the area.

For this competition I want to make it into the second round for at least 1 event. Since that will likely be in either 2x2 or pyra (which I'm best at compared to most people), that's what I'm going to be spending most of my time on for the next month. Yesterday I learned the l4e cases for the back edge solved and today I learned the H cases for CLL.

Since I last posted my times for 2x2 and pyra I've improved all of my records except for pyraminx single. Here are the new times:
Single: 2.000
Mo3: 4.92
Ao5: 5.36
Ao12: 6.14
Ao100: 6.81
Single: 2.87
Mo3: 5.76
Ao5: 6.58
Ao12: 8.25
Ao100: 9.42

Edit: I timed myself picking up and setting down my 2x2, and it takes about .6 seconds to do. I feel like this takes way too long. Is there any way to improve this (drills, technique, etc.) or should I just not worry about it? I feel like it could be an easy way to cut ~.2 seconds off my time, which would be a big help.

I ended up deciding to try and optimize ortega for the competition instead of learning CLL, but progression has been really slow and there's no way I can reach my goals for 2x2 that way, so I'm going back to learning CLL. I'm going to try to learn most of the pi cases today and then learn the rest and practice them tomorrow.

New 3x3 pb!
I got a 15.87, which is a huge improvement from my previous record of 18.42. I got 1 or 2 free pairs, an OLL skip, and a U perm ending (I think it was a Ub). Tymon doesn't stand a chance against me, lol.
L2 F2 L2 B L2 R2 F2 D2 L2 B' R B' R D' F R' D' F U' L2

I'm also looking at another competition a few hours away, it has 3x3, 2x2, pyraminx, and skewb and either 3BLD or OH (I don't remember which). I'm trying to convince my parents to go to it, and registration opens next week, so I think I have a decent chance of going.

I've been spending some time on 3x3 and I have pretty efficient F2L (compared to previously), so I'm improving decently and set a lot of new PB's.
Mo3: 21.14
Ao5: 21.99
Ao12: 22.58
Ao100: 23.98

My 4x4 felt gummy, so I disassembled the whole thing and cleaned it out. There was a ton of hair in the core and there was way too much lube on the pieces. It feels better already and I'm getting a lube Friday that should make it fast (the one I have now makes it controllable, but gummy).

I got a bell v2 pyraminx and a yj yuhu megaminx. I started breaking in the pyraminx and it already feels great. The megaminx feels great, but it still needs broken in and I need to learn how to solve it better. My first solve was 11 minutes, my second was under 7 minutes, so we'll see how good I can get by the end of the day.

I got my average of 100 under 9 seconds on pyraminx. With the bell v2, most of my solves are under 8 seconds, so I think I'm going to be improving a lot in the next week before my competition.
The new pyraminx pb's from today:
Ao5: 6.48
Ao12: 7.37
Ao100: 8.97

Edit: My Ao100 is now 8.5, I can't believe that a new pyraminx made that big of a difference.

I already got a new 3x3 pb of 15.61! I'm pretty sure I know how I solved the first 2 pairs, but I'm not sure what I did on the last 2 pairs. I know I got OLL 24 and ended in a Jb perm.
Scramble: D' U' B2 U L2 U B2 F' R F D' F' L D U' L2 D2

Cross: x2 y' E' B2 M' x' u'
First pair: L' U L
Second pair: U R U' R'
