I don't see why cross is ever taught on top.
I was teaching a friend, and she did the cross on bottom, even though I showed her a method that did cross on top. I was curious as to why, when I asked her she said its nice to see how far she's gotten in a solve, but looking at the solved pieces didn't help her get the rest of the cube. And she's right...
