I just got my rubik's DIY cube.

I sanded down the mold edges with 400grit sandpaper. After that, I cleaned the cubies off, and lubed them. After putting the cube together, I'm amazed at the feel of this cube. It's such a clean feeling. I feel like I can turn more accurately (not sure if this is true or not) and I feel like my algs go faster. I can *almost* do U2, but not quite. As of now, I can cut about 1/2 of a cubie with a moderately loose tension.

I'm curious why more people don't use this cube.
I haven't gotten my f-II, AV, Ghost hand, order in yet so I can't compare. (Hoping for it to get here this week?)

Mkay, A cube that cannot do U2 is objectively horrible. Also, Half a cubie ain't that great... Wait till you get your FII, AV, and Gohst Hand. They will be much, much, MUCH better.

Half a cubie is all I need, as I turn fairly accurately with this cube.

Trust me, you're gonna realize why it's not so popular once you get your F-II and AV.

It's just that you haven't gotten to try the best yet. Hell, when I had only ever used Storebought, I thought it was so well broken in that it was probably as good as a DIY. I couldn't imagine how a cube could be much better. Then, I got an F-II and it was night and day. That same storebought seems borderline unusable now.

Okay, Let me tell you why this cube is not popular.

-Pricey (rubiks.com I assume)
-You can't trust a Rubik's brand to cut corner
-Plastic is soft on the outside, if much use of cube. The soft plastic detiorates, gunk up then slows ur cube
-Basically a storebought with screws
-Center cap does not stay
-Locks if not pot on center cap
-Core does not stand constant tension adjusting
-Many diffrent producers of Rubik's brand, terrible product consistency
-Stickers is not good
-You have to get a: New core, new stickers, New cube (?).

Just get an Alpha Haiyan Memory ok? U see this as an ad: 'The world record cube, Polished and assembled by Haiyan Zhuang'? Go get it now at top of forum)

EY! Not everyone can get those cubes you know. Whether it's to do with costs, buying from unfamiliar sites, etc. The Rubik's DIY is already a great speed cube. Just cause you have a good cube doesn't mean you can cut 10 s off your time.

Don't let the other guys get to ya. There are plenty of people who're super fast, yet don't even know what a DIY is.

True, true, but clearly this guy can get them. But for people who can't, I suppose the Rubik's DIY would be MUCH better than a storebought.

He bought a rubik's DIY. He can afford and FII at least. It's only like 7 bucks on lightake.

I hope I get them. I placed a a $50 order for cubes and I'm gonna get a timer too. They've yet to come from lightake. They shipped out 6 days ago from Hong Kong. I've seen it take a little while from other people's experiences. Hopefully it'll get to the US before too long.

Yu mods all his rubik's DIY's, I'm pretty sure.

From what I hear, it's a pretty solid cube, just not really spectacular. When a top-of-the-line cube is less than $10, I don't really see why you wouldn't want the best.

You should give it a shot, though, you want to try as many cubes as possible. I know some people just click with different cubes and can get better times with a technically inferior cube.

Guys let him use his DIY for now. He'll eventually get too good for it and switch in his own time.
Yu Nakajima used storeboughts and Rubik's DIY's, along with other fast people.
EDIT

NOW I read the second page.
So forget my last line as it has already been stated, but the first line still applies.

While I don't pull any ridiculous solves, I just beat by PR solve by 5 seconds with some thanks to the DIY. The fast turning helped, not exactly sure how much, but mostly it was a mistake-free, low downtime solve. I like the feel of it for now, more than my two storeboughts, so until my other cubes come, I'll stick with it.

it is ALL personal preferance, completely subjective.

for example, despite all these new weird-looking cubes these days, I still prefer the Maru 3x3 that basically have the orginal mechanism.

I liked it at the time but it locked up a lot. I moved on and never looked back.
Jigaloo made a lot of cracks on the cubies.

I'd like to try an Edison and an authentic JSK. I suspect they would be similar but better than the Rubik's DIY.

Some people used to say that type C was a Rubik's DIY clone but I'm not sure if it's true. I skipped type C.
