How do I get to the place where you time yourself with a rubik's cube?

Here is my opinion on the most popular times I have used. This can give you an idea of what timers you should use for timing your solves on the Rubik's Cube.

CubeTimer: 8/10
http://www.cubetimer.com/

Description
A very easy to use online cube timer that can save your times in many types of averages. You can easily switch puzzles, the timer saves your times with cookies, and you can post your videos on the video section of the website.

Pro
-Very Easy To Use
-Nice simple interface
-Displays averages of all solves, 5, 3/5, 10, 10/12, and your best time
-Saves your times until you delete your cookies
-Easy to switch puzzles
-Has inspection with sound
-Able to delete individual times or clear all timed solves
-Does not need to be downloaded
-Provides scrambles

Cons
-Cannot save averages
-Must have internet access

Cubemania: 8/10
http://www.cubemania.org/

Description
This timer is designed for many registered users to compete each other in your cube solving times. There are many puzzles you can choose from, and you can compare your times with graphs and competitions.

Pros
-Easy to use
-Saves your times, averages with 3/5 solves, and graphs them. You can compare graphs with other users
-Displays the best and worst times with color
-Able to delete, plus 2, DNF, or add a time
-Does not need to be downloaded
-Provides scrambles

Cons
-Must have internet access
-Does not have countdown
-Can only do 3/5 solve averages

Jnet Cube: 7/10
http://www.strangepuzzle.com/jnetcube.html

Description
A nice downloadable timer that has all of the features you would need for saving averages.

Pros
-You can save your averages
-Displays the best rolling average, useful for Sunday Contest (just copy and paste!)
-Able to discard, +2, or DNF each solve
-Able to import and export scrambles
-Does not require internet access
-Provides scrambles

Cons
-Interface is ugly
-Must be downloaded
-Cannot change individual times once they have been accepted
-Program window cannot be resized
-Can only do 10/12 solve averages

CALCubeTimer (CCT): 9/10
http://gnehzr.net/cct/

Description
Nice downloadble timer with a big timer display. It has all of the features needed to save averages, and the interface looks nice.

Pros
-Interface is nice
-Able to save and view the current average, best rolling average, and the session average
-Able to import and export scrambles
-Able to discard, +2, or DNF each solve any time during the average
-The program window can be resized, thus able to have a LARGE timer display
-Able to change cube color schemes
-Able to change scramble sizes
-Does not require internet access
-Able to switch the number of solves for a rolling average
-Provides scrambles

Cons
-Must be downloaded
-Does not have countdown

StackMat: 8/10
http://speedstacks.com/store/us/shop.php

Description
This timer is designed for cup stacking and is not used by a computer, so it doesn't have most of the features a Rubik's Cube computer timer has. However, it is portable, easy to use, and is the official timer used by the World Cube Association (WCA).

Pros
-Official Timer of WCA, so you can get used to the "real" timer
-Faster to start and stop the timer
-Some StackMats have the memory feature and data port (data port allows StackMat to connect to the Tournament Display and CCT)
-Portable
-Does not require a computer (no need to download or require internet access)

Cons:
-Cannot generate averages
-Does not have count down
-Does not provide scrambles

Well, this clearly isnt a review about the new and improved version, and you forgot to add the server function as a con :)

If you noticed, I said

That means I haven't tried Rubiks Jtimer yet (LOL I just downloaded it NOW). I also haven't used the server function so I'm not going to write anything about that.

I suppose my question fits in here, rather than starting a new thread: when I try to load up CCT, I'm just presented with a picture of a stack of cubes and CCT; I expect it's meant to load up the program afterwards, but it doesn't. Help, at all?

Yes that happened to me before... weird.... Just install the CCT again and use the newly installed version... worked for me...

Try that, and make sure your Java platform is at least JRE6, I believe.

Also, there is a list of web-based software here and a list of downloadable software here

I downloaded mine already, but I can't use it.....

Do they take a very long time to load? Because mine looks like lagging.

Btw, I am talking about CCT.
