Problem with cube at work

Hi,

I'm failry new to solving the cubem but can do it without problems (usually) using the standard method which is provided when you buy the cube (I plan to look into more methods to see what else can be done).

However, there is a cube at my work which is bugging me. I can solve it all as normal, right up until the last (top) layer. I can put the edges in the right place, rotated the right way up, but I have a problem with the corners.

Usually I would to U, R, Ui, Li, U, Ri, Ui, L as required to keep one corner in place and rotate the other three into position.

But what I end up with on this cube is two corners on the top layer in the right place, and two corners swapped with each other.

Looking into it I think I am reading onoine that it is not possible to swap these two corners into the right position - an I picking this up right? is there a way to sort this out, or has someone tampered with this cube?

Your saying everything but two corners are correct, right? If that is the case, your cube is in an unsolvable position.

Yeah, of there are two pieces requiring to be swapped, then it's an impossible state.
And if there are opposite colours on a given piece, then there's evident of the evil sticker peelers.

I hate them so much! I was in a toy store in my town last week, and they had this Rubik's cube on a string, hanging from the ceiling. So naturally, I tried to solve it. And yes, you guessed it, some a**hole peeled off the stickers. Then later, when I was waiting in line (buying the 2x2x4) I mentioned the sticker problem, and the cube being unsolvable, to the guy behind the register, and some woman behind me said "Or maybe you just can't solve a Rubik's cube". I thought to myself " Go do the dishes or something!".

You should have just gone up to her face and siad, oh hell no you don't talk to me like that I'm a boss. Certain people are just irritating.

They're swapped with each other. So FRU, FLU are correct, BRU, BLU are SWAPPED.

Anyway, it's fixed now and working correctly.

Hope I got my notations correct there - now to go and learn other solving methods other than the one you get free with the cube!

Not to stray too far off topic: but what is 'the method you get free with the cube'?

CFOP LBL?

PS: Every method is free. ;)

It's the method Dan Brown teaches. Cross, FLcorners via [R, D], second layer edges via U R U' R' U' F' U F and it's mirror, "yellow cross" via frurufing until done and then Sune to permute, Niklas to permute corners and then orient again via [R, D].

What!? That guy..... You shouldve took your cubes out and challenged him.
Or at least tell them the logic of you know... Why it's impossible.

When I bought it, there was instructions supplied for how to solve it - the same instructions that you find on the official Rubik's website.

I don't think rubik have ever given instruction for the Dan Brown method, The last I heard if was Dan Knights who did the booklet, which was, standard LBL for F2L then top cross, then Sune(s), A Perm for corners and optimal U perm for edges.
