So I have just recently started OH, with 2H I use a 2 Look OLL and I average 30 seconds. With OH I average 2 Minutes so its a lot different. I try my best to use my pinky for R and R' And Index for U and U' (I use my left hand). Are there any exercises that I can do to get quicker? Plus I have noticed that when I do Us and R's that the skin behind my fingernail gets rubbed and it tends to leave scrapes that hurt, any suggestions? Hope you all can help.

Keep pressing on and Practicing! It is good that you are learning all these finger tricks now instead of waiting like I did.
For exercises just turn OH alot! Do like RU'R'U or any order of those 4 turns over and over to practice turning the R and U sides both ways. I would do this until my hand was very tired and kept pushing myself for a higher number of times each day.
As you OH more and more you will develop callouses on the parts of your fingers that contact your cube that are now being scraped. When I first learned R' with my pinky I did it so much I caused the side of my pinky by my nail to bleed but now that part is sufficiently calloused that I can cube all I want without sore fingers :-)
Just keep practicing and training your hand :-)

Yeah I'm just one of those people who think they can do a sub minute average in like a week, but this has really shown me that its not easy at all. I am gonna have to learn all the OLLs and better OH PLLs if I want to break a minute OH cubing.

I can probably average pretty close to a minute in a matter of weeks, I just think I need to get the finger tricks worked out and be more comfortable with my crappy cube. I am hoping to get a decent DIY that I can make very loose.

i have around a 45-50 second average, an im working on the R' with pinky as well as the wretched F and B turns. Is it bad for sometimes that i can do U R' in one motion just using my index finger?

I sometimes practice with the OLL: RU2R'U'RUR'U'RU'R' and Z perm. I also practice with random PLLs since they help train fingers and PLL speed.

you wont need to learn different PLLs until you are sub 30
i did 32.xx average in spain 2007 with the same OLLs and PLLs than with 2H, so i think it is all possible
(and i DIDNT use pinky for R')

well, sorry, i didnt say that i was ALSO 30.xx average with 2H when i did that 32.xx with OH (and they were all normal times)

what is possible is to get nearly the same times with OH, but practising a lot
what is NOT possible is to be better in OH, because practising it drops down 2H times

so i say: if you really like 2H, dont worry, in a week you'll be sub1.10 cuber
and in a month you could have a normal 4x average :D

just practise and practise

PS: the more that your forearm hurts, the more you will improve, so if it starts to hurt, keep practising (next day you'll feel the difference)

any objections with my 2 posts?
tell me what d'you reckon, steve

no objections at all :P
i've also noticed that doing OH really does help your 2H too. i've been OHing for bout a month and a half while doing very little 2H and my 2H avg has gotten a ton better. Before it was 20s 2H and 1:30 OH and now it is 16s 2H and 28s OH. btw, pain=good but severe carpal tunnel=bad :P

Really? Steve, you are giving me inspiration. Perhaps I should stop 2H for a month to focuse on getting sub-30 average OH. Perhaps then, I'll magically average sub-20 2H.
So that's about 12 to cut for OH and 2-5 to cut for 2H...

to fanwuq:

you are right, if you practise just OH for a month you will be sub 20 with 2H
but if what you want is to get sub 20 2H, just practise 2H ¬¬'

WHY do times drop while practising OH?
because you do it slow (compared with 2H) and it's the greatest way to improve look ahead, so doing OH is the same as training slow 2H

so, if you practise just 2H, i think you will also be sub 30 OH
what do you like more, OH or 2H?...
that's your matter
just practise your favourite

but remember that both cubes improve both cubes
