Hi guys, new member over here. I recently switched to Fridrich method after playing around with the cube for a month or two using beginner LBL.

I finally got very used to solving the cross on the bottom, but I have a problem over here. When your 15 sec starts, how much of the cross do you plan? For me, I just cannot, or should I say, don't know how to plan the entire cross. The best I can do is plan moves to solve 3 edges, and leave the last edge to during solving time. I wonder if this is a bad habit which I must get out of.

Opinions?

Most people who can do the cross under 4 seconds memorize the entire cross in 15 seconds or less. (I think it's actually 12 seconds now). You should practice memorizing it, it doesn't matter how long it takes. It may take you a minute, and when you have finally memorized it, do it blindfolded. Then keep on practicing until you can memorize the whole cross in 15 seconds or less. This could take you a couple of weeks for you to achieve.

A good, efficient cross requires some decent spatial thinking. During the 15sec you note where the 4 cross pieces are, their orientation (flip), and where they should go.

When you plan it out, you should have a solid grasp of how each twist affects the location and orientation of each piece.

I'm actually in the process of changing my cross too. I usually do cross on top and then flip the cube, so i'm busy switching to cross on bottom, but it's tough :(

if you know colour orientation for example, if yellow is on top, then green facing, then orange is right of green next to orange is blue and then red, if you use that principal to get the cross in the bottom layer formed that way, then you should just be able to adjust the D face and reduce moves, which would make it more effective and efficient :)

Spend as long as you need looking at the cube (if it takes 20 minutes, do it) and plan out the cross in your head, then close your eyes and solve. Keep doing this and eventually it will get below 15 seconds. If it is planned out in your head, and with practice, the cross can be solved in under 2 seconds, and during those 2 seconds, you can be planning out the first pair. Good luck.

Yes I understand that you don't have to match up the edges with the centers, as long as you solve the cross edges in the correct relative positions. It's just that I cannot seem to either plan the entire solution, or I cannot remember the entire solution. My best is 3 edges so far.
