Also, since I had to take 2 days off of cubing since my dog ate it, and those two days I spent waiting for my new AMAZING DIY cube I will do the Roux 50 solve marathon on Wednesday.

FROM PETRUS WEEK

What's been good the past week:
(meaning what i do and don't like about Petrus)

PROS:

-I finally figured out how to do f2l like, yesterday. This meaning, I finally actually can solve it and not just get lucky.. lol
-Doing the actual solves is really easy for me now, and I have little to no trouble doing them.. however, i'm obviously not doing these are record times.
-I only needed to learn 2 algorithms, and if I stick to Petrus/ continue like this on Petrus I will learn the COLL and edge permutation algs (7 i think?)
-I got a new pb for fewest moves, at 73, before it was around 125 hahaha.. yeah i sucked.

CONS:

-Without the COLL and the cross perm algs, solving the last layer takes FOREVER. Most of my time is wasted on this step.

-I personally am not very good at anticipating/finding pieces before i need them. I was pretty decent with the basic LBL method meaning I could find each edge or corner I needed whilst putting in a edge/corner prior to putting in the one i found..... eh, i confused myself.. I could find pieces easily. Using petrus there is too much of the cube to find each piece, particularly speaking of building the first block, and expanding it. This will obviously come over lots of practice, but another most of my time is wasted looking for
pieces.

-This method I can also use for big cubes, Roux, obviously, I can't turn M as easily.

WHAT I HOPE TO FIND IN ROUX THAT I DIDN'T IN PETRUS:

-I hope that I will be able to locate pieces easily-er.
-I hope that I will be able to memorize everything as fast, if not faster, than I did with Petrus. I learning how to actually solve the thing with Petur swithin a day, no alg sheets needed. Because Roux has a lot of really short algs (like MUM') I hope that by the end of the day/part way through the second day I will be able to do the same.
-I hope I will generally be able to solve it faster with my knowledge of Petrus. I don't know if knowing Petrus will somehow help me when solving Roux, who knows. It might help me in building the 1st and 2nd 1x2x3 blocks. Who knows.
-I hope that the method itself isn't as hard as I think it will be. Maybe I'm just exaggerating myself/psyching myself out knowing that tomarrow I'll have to re-learn I just spent a week on learning, and basically throw all my skills away for at least a week, if not more if I stick to it.

finally,

-I hope that by learning both Petrus and Roux (and potentially Heise, just for the sake of learning) I will expand my knowledge of the cube and will be able to adapt to the scramble given to me when it comes time to solve. I hope that I will be able to quickly see that I could build a 1x2x3 block faster than a 2x2 block or vice versa, and will be able to solve the cube faster than if I only knew one single method. I hope that by knowing both methods I will be able to always solve the cube in the most effecient way I can see, instead of just knowing one method where it might not be so effecient.

Well, thats all I have to say, around 5pm EST I'll post up my averages.. I'll do some big 50 solve marathon or something lol.. no warm up.

-Smartyy!

okay.. so here's my times. I am so glad I got an average of sub-2min.. it took me a month just to get that with LBL, and i got it within a week with Petrus. If Roux is as good as everyone says it is, I am very anxious to see what times i get with it:

**afterward notes**

some things I could have improved on:

-actually speeding up.. i felt like I was solving it normally (like just solving for the sake of it) just a bit faster, so I am actually really surprised i got these times.
-finding the damn pieces! god! I spent at LEAST 10+ seconds on each solve just finding the corner, or edge or whatever when building the freakin' block!
-Concentrating.. i was listening to buckethead in the background and every once in awhile i was listening to the music more than I was solving the cube Tongue

i think that with roux in the beginning it can be hard to find the pieces fast but after awhile you get better at anticipating were the pieces are and it is also a really fun method

okay got my cube back now yippee :D
I will eat dinner and start this thing to end it once and for all (until next week..)

so check back here around 10:00pm or something if you are actually interested to see how i do.. lol

This is interesting, so I decided to post just so you know I'm here. Looking forward to the roux 1-week numbers.

thanks for.. umm.. finding it interesting :D
i didn't think anybody was lol and I was just wasting forum space

I was so fascinated by this that it caused me to finally fully learn Petrus on Friday (I had previously really only learned the first 2 steps for fewest moves), and I got hooked, blast you! I don't have time for this - I should be working on 5x5x5 and BLD instead.

My current best average of 10 using Petrus is 1:01.xx; I'm determined to get sub-1, but it's eluding me. I'm too slow at steps 5-7; I can easily get sub-1 if I just do Fridrich 2-look LL instead. :)

Petrus actually makes it fun again to solve a 3x3x3.

Oh, and one other nice thing about this is that I FINALLY know Niklas. For real. It's about time.

I hope your next installment doesn't cause me to get equally hooked on Roux.

Edit: Just went sub-1. 57.62 seconds:
53.42, 57.76, 1:02.53, (47.56), 1:08.12, 58.94, 58.11, (1:14.98), 51.09, 48.58, 1:04.44, 53.20
:D

I thought Petrus himself combine steps for LL anyway. So I think for Petrus you could use COLL or PLL. Are you doing the beginner way with only sune and niklas? I tried Petrus with 2LLL a while ago. It was pretty fun. Orienting edges was bad recognition, so I'll stick with FURU'R'F' :D

Well, I think to match the "spirit of the Petrus method", you need to either combine steps 5 and 6, or steps 6 and 7, or perhaps all 3. But doing OLL/PLL doesn't really fit that - you're supposed to do corner permutation first. So yes, I use only Niklas and Sune for steps 5 and 6. (Well, actually, if I get in the situation with needing to swap corners diagonally, I use an E perm for that, since it was something I know and it still is solving the corner permutation. It's a stupid way to do it, but I figure it's still legitimate Petrus that way.)

And I think Johannes claims he can do even "beginner Petrus" in about 17 seconds.

But yeah, I can do "Petrus with 2LLL" a good bit faster (still slow, but faster). But doing it this way seemed more fun somehow.

since I broke my leg last night and monday's are pretty busy, I willbe doing to 50 solve marathon on Wednesday.
