I have a few questions on Petrus, mainly about recognition because the way I do it.

1. When looking at the cube, how can you possibly make a freakin' 2x2 in 6 moves? It takes me like 15.
1.1 What is the most effecient way to make a block? The way I do it seems slow.. I put up one edge, then the other, then it's correcnsponding corner, then the last edge. What is a faster way?

2. What is the fastest and most effecient way to fix bad edges? I do it two at a time, I put one on the left side, one on the U side, then use the 3 move Keyhole algorithm to fix them. What can I do to improve this?

3. Solving F2L, I currently make it so one of the corners faces up (e.g. if White is my D face then the White sticker faces Up) then I match it with it's edge, put it in with the first edge. I do that for both of them and it usually takes me a good 15-25 seconds depending on the scramble. There HAS to be a really uber speedy way to solve that, because a good cuber could do it in like 5 seconds.

That's it, I really want to improve my Petrus, with Roux right now it's just practice. It's easier to find pieces to build the 1x2x3 blocks 'cause you are always looking for the same pieces. With petrus you have to figure out what you are looking for then find it. Takes longer IMO.

Thanks for your help,

For this, I think the best way is to go to Johannes' site and look at a bunch of optimal block solves generated there.

After looking at how a bunch of them are made, you start to see them yourself.

I still stink at it, but given a lot of time I can usually see at least one optimal one now.

observe some optimal block building as mentioned above^^^ and then practice lots. you will just get a lot better at spotting things!

bad edges... i find the easiest way for me is to usually get rid of 2 or 6 at a time and avoid a 4 bad edge situation as i finish the 2x2x3. this is because i get confused about where the bad edges are with a total of 4. with 2 i just keep track of the two, or with 6, i just keep track of the good edge.

so yeah, you might want to learn a 6 bad edge alg from lar5.com and practice practice practice!

Keyhole...? Just learn and understand all the different 3-movers. Then the R L' U L R' and all other combinations will seem obvious. It's really a trivial step, just don't treat the sequences as "algs" and don't memorize them, but understand them.

You don't *have* to use same colors for the 1x2x3 every time, and you don't *have* to be completely color neutral with Petrus.

the way i would do the 2x2x2 is i would match a corner with a edge, then i would move it to the correct layer but not at the correct place, then i would make the 1x2x2 at the incorrect place, then i would insert the remaining edge piece, then move the 1x2x2 to match them all
