Petrus edge orienting question.

I have a question about edge orienting using Petrus method. Would it be faster/slower to orient the edges when 3 f2l slots are solved rather then fixing edges when 2 f2l slots are solved.

With only 2 slots (actually a 2x2x3 block) you have more freedom and thus require less moves in general

But with only 2 slots there are also 2 more unsolved edges that might need orienting

Orienting edges with 3 slots done would be as much as three times longer by my guess. Actually, what your thinking of is called VH. In VH you put in the last F2L pair in a manner that orients all last layer edges. It requires...hmmm....32 algs I believe. It's also pointless. Pretty much it just transfers some of your last layer work to your f2l, without speeding up your f2l like bad edges.(step 4)

2 slots as you have more freedom and then you have to do the last two using only R and U and this is done pretty fast
