Old magic winner

Here's my old cup entitled
Rubik's Magic
National Challenge 1987
Runner-up

Thank you for the warm welcome, I'll put some videos a lot later...
Rubik's magic and stack mat are for christmas.
I'm looking for a new LL method before starting the F2L.
My Rubik's cube method is slow and I think also completely extinct.
If I can find some free webspace I'll see if I can do the tutorial...
The Chilton method ;)

Hey Jaap, that's my method Jaap says he saw it on tv but I can guarantee that this method was out very early. Yes it was the twist and flip all in one go. We were about 12 teenagers in total and everyone was doing the twist way, and if they weren't then they soon picked it up. The boy who won it got like 1.5s he was not one of the fastest in the group, but he had his mother molly-coddling him, and wearing that coat on a cold day obveously paid off :'(

I couldn't find myself on you tube, but I found a couple of old videos.
One where they are times to do the Rubik's magic in 1987 and they use the twist method. The second where 2 lads build a 3x magic and also another one as long as a room. Yet again they solve the Rubik's master using the twist method.

I guess Jaap was the first one to put it on to the internet.
But it was being solved in 1987 using this documented method.

I saw them a little late, but these movies are well worth watching.

* Time measurement on tv has always been a problem in interviews, but the third kid really did it the fastest
* This was the first time I actually saw Erno Rubiks play with one of his puzzles. It looks like he knows how to solve it, but not very efficiently/fast
* Guy Harris? It's weird having a guy named Guy, but another UK cuber named Harris doing interviews makes me wonder......
* Good job on the guys making that huge magic, bad job on the camera filming the nice message to Erno Rubiks on it.

Yeh that was always the problem in the 80's, the camera man turns up for work, and has no idea of what will be happening on the show :(
Just like TV presenter has to explain to the viewers what's going on, but they arrived 5 mins earlier than the camera man

Fellow competitor

I have only just been reminded of this competition during a clear out and finding my Rubik's Magic.
I guess it was you that beat me in the regional finals by .06 of a second! Well done! :)

I was gutted not to go to London! Haha. but I did receive a Magic Master edition as a prize, which broke before I figured out how to solve it... I was mortified and because I hadn't bought it, Rubik's wouldn't replace it! So ended my competing days! :D

Love the memories.

Hi there,
It's 2am here so I'll be short. I'm from the UK and now live in France.
I was into the cube at an early age, after that I got the ball, pyramid, 2x2 and so on as presents for birthdays and christmas. (Even now my wife and family still buy me all sorts of ones.)

Back in 1987 I won the Rubik Magic competition for Yorkshire, 0.78s and competed in the UK finals where I messed it up and got 3s :'( I still have my cup, but not the "Get Fresh" tv appearance... Anyway my family and I got an exciting trip to London.

I get an average of 2mins, using the old method that I learnt as a child.
I always imagined that the sub-20s were some super weird method and never got into it. Recently my child minder's 14 year old said that his mate was doing it in 1:30, so I thought that it was about time to improve :D

Hence my very first question
http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/showthread.php?p=94376 on my old 3x3 method on the last layer that I learnt in the early 80's
