Seeing as I'm the only active cuber from Luxembourg that has participated in a
competition, I get a lot of people asking me: "Doesn't it feel weird getting NRs at an event just by by participating?" and I can honestly say that it kind of blows :( I wish more people from my country would sign up for competitions, but they are either too ashamed of their times or don't care.

Now how would I get those people motivated :p? Any ideas are appreciated.

Also: Are there other speedcubers that are the only ones in their country to compete? Post here :)

Same thing goes for me. We have some people cubing, but no competition though.

Yes, for some reason, they don't want to compete unless they're sub30 or something.

I think people from other countries...
Europe is a lot more compact than the US, imagine maybe going to Wisconsin from Minnesota for a Competition.

Sure there are a lot of people at the competitions, but what I miss is being able to meet up and practice, share some knowledge, show some tricks etc. I would love to practice as a team for a competition, with everyone practising for their favorite event. That's what I meant.

Sure, there are lots of people to compete with from other countries, but I've always loved the national competition as well (I played tennis for 14 years).

There are many such: Azerbaijan, Argentina, Belize, Bulgaria, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Estonia, Iran, Ireland, Lebanon, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Morocco, New Zealand, Nigeria, Peru, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Turkey, Yugoslavia, and the region of 2 cubers: Aruba, Israel, Romania, Russia.

Ask cubers from Russia, they have 2 people in WCA Official Results but organize Moscow Open 2009, and I think it would be a good event. :]

Sorry if I dig up a old thread but I have a question.

How can I register on WCA? :D (no really ontop but still)
How can I make a NR? In my country I guess is no cubing competitons (Estonia) and do I have to go to some big WCA-things to make them? Estonian NR is 1:09 as the WCA tells. I know lots of peaople in est who would break that record enormeusly (thats spelled wrongly but I cant remember the right word:D) Even my record is 35 sec right now. Average is under 50 every time and best one 42 sec.

thanks!

I wouldn't mind an NR... but not if I'm the only one =b. lol

Me: YES!!!!! I DID IT!!!!!!! NATIONAL RECORD!!!!!!!

*crickets chirp*

Me: Hello??? :p

Have you tried making your own personal websites or maybe forum for the cuber community in your country, or maybe already have one of those?
You can use it to socialize cubing more to people that still don't know about it. Also maybe to organize local gathering, local competition and other type of events to get the people moving. Maybe by practicing in smaller competition they will have the courage to try to compete at least.
Organizing WCA competition in your country will be great too, considering you are in Europe probably it's not too difficult (travelling wise) to get 1 WCA delegate to come :) but only if the people have ready to move on to bigger competition.
I wish you good luck :)
