i'm not sure if this falls in this category or beginners...

i've been cubing for about 1 year. currently, i'm using a 3LLL. i'm still hovering at a 52 second average (best non-fluke solve = 36). i started to notice that my F2L is nearly ALWAYS at 29 seconds. so, i'm revisiting some of my non-formal F2L algs (compared to dan harris') to find where i'm missing the boat and wasting moves. i still have a couple PLL algs to learn, and i have not learned really any OLL algs yet.

i guess my question is this: compared to all of you, how am i doing? what SHOULD my average be? and what is the logical path to get to the next step.

i practice for at least 1 hour every day, and SHOULD have spent that time learning the OLL and PLL algs, but instead i've just been enjoying myself and learning how the cube works. now i've hit a wall. sure, i'm missing a few PLL algs, but i 'save' on average 3 or 4 seconds when i get to an alg that i know (rather than using another alg that gets me to a PLL that i do know). i think the problem is lying with F2L...but i'd like to hear from you guys...

i just want to get to sub 30 consistently and then i'll be happy (or so i tell myself...and my girlfriend).

thanks,
rst

you know what guys...i just found this site and posted this without viewing the other pages of topics. i found a few good strings that have answered my questions.

it appears that most of you were more dedicated at memorizing the PLL algs than i was.

Lol, well, i've been cubing for under 2 months now, i thought it was 2 months, but looking back it's only been like 5 weeks or so. My avg is around 50 sec or so, and my record is 39 seconds. I spend a couple hours a day practicing, and can avg 50 sec with either the beginners method or the fridrich method. I still don't have all of the f2l down, only like 1/3, and i can pull out about a 50 sec avg. So i'm not sure what you're doing wrong raoul st. texas, do you by chance have a video online that we could watch and critque?

good idea. i've got a few vids, but they aren't posted anywhere. i'll work on that and let you guys know.

as i work on these, i'm going to use dan harris' site to get the algs going and watch what is happening to the cube. for you F2L masters, when you were learning these, did you actually set them up to match the starting point of the alg? of course, the slot may be different, but it seems like a lot of time would be wasted setting these up. hopefully, i'll be able to see them from all angles eventually, but how did you guys learn these?
