Hey everybody!

I am new around here and to cubing.

I have been cubing for about 2 months now and until for a week ago I couldnt break the 1 minute barrier.

but then today I got some extremely good results:

avg: 47 sec. (best 38.33, worst 1 min 1.09 sec)

my method: cross(weak), F2L(weak), 4-look LL
______________

my question is now, how fast does people progress? when can I expect to get avg in the 30s?

my goal ofc is to get sub 20 avg but I expect it to happen within a year. :)

greetings,

Doubleyou

Practice it key. Your times will depend on how much your practice. Work on minimizing your F2L move count, and work on recognizing and executing your LL. However, work on the F2L first and get that down, and with that your LL times will slowly come down. Good luck.

I learned a modern beginners method (2+1+1+1+1=6 algs: F2L, Edge-OLL, Corner-OLL, Corner-PLL, Edge-PLL) that got me sub 1 in a week (2 hours practice each day)

Then I learned keyhole + 4 look last layer (2+3+7+2+4=18 algs)
I got sub 40 within a month (1 hour practice each day)

Then I learned intermediate keyhole + 4 look last layer (5+3+7+2+4=21 algs) and got sub 35 in another month (still 1 hour practice a day)

Then I learned advanced keyhole + 4 look last layer (11+3+7+2+4=27algs) and got sub 30 in about 6 more months (2 hours practice a week)

Now I just practice sometimes and I am now sub 27.

If you are young, you will probably spent more time on it then I did and learn new algorithms earlier. This should take you sub 30 in about 3 months and sub 20 in about 6/12 months.

It all depends on the amount of practice you put in to it.

I have had some time off (quite luckily) as I began to speed solve.
first two weeks off then on week of shcool then one more week off. and I have roughly not been doing anything else but cubing :)
maybe even 6 hours of practice a day some days.

I plan on spending at least 1-2 hours a day from now on.

I am 21 and I am from Denmark. I have tried to get others to learn it but something funny have happened to me..:

when I was just started I quite frankly couldnt understand much of anything.
I wished someone could put more words on describing the beginners method.
So I spend alot of time om teaching myself the stuff.

but now, when I try to teach people stuff I hear myself telling stuff they have NO chance of understanding ie. disencourage them.
but I got one of my friends into it. he is not that much into solving fast tho.

we figured the large cubes out ourselves so thats a big step for us.

but generally I think having someone to preactice with helps MOUNTAINS!

What do you think of this statement?

I cant wait to get a better flow to it (sub 30 maybe). I can tell my F2L needs alot of practice. so thats my main aim atm.

(I really LOVE these mixed up posts, so expect more of these from me :)j/k )

btw. here is a list of what I can do:

-all corner- or edge-ONLY PLL (NO combos)

-a fine collection of OLL. but these are coming slow..

so mostly 4-Look..

but I get lucky and it here times like 30/40s accour

but I still get 1mins... (grrr)

could you recommend a collection of algos please?

I'd like to get some edge OLLs (do you have some recommendations here?)

Having someone to practice with is really great. I think that is one of the reason the "Dzoan-family" and the "Caltech-Area" produced so many good cubers. It is also one of the reasons why I spent so much time on this forum and enjoy competitions so much.

about the "algos".... they are all over the internet. For edge-OLL's I only use these three
F R U R' U' F' (2 edges, "line")
F U R U' R' F' (2 edges, "9 o clock)
L' l U l' U2 l U L' U L2 R' (0 edges+Sune)
The 3rd alg isn't used by many, maybe if you mirror it you like it better?
