New SpeedCuber

Not sure i thought cfop was short for fridrich.

CFOP is the real name of fridrich. Jessica Fridrich helped in the creation of the method, but by no means was it her own method. It stands for Cross/F2L/OLL/PLL.
To answer your earlier question.. You'll get faster with any method if you practice. CFOP and roux have the same potential.

do you think more people refer to the method as fridrich or CFOP, just wondering

People call it Fridrich only because she popularized it. But go ahead and call it CFOP because it's more informative.
CFOP is the most "fool-proof" method and it's fairly easy to learn. All the recognition of the algorithms in CFOP are straightforward and you will probably find them easy to learn.

I would agree with this and also venture to say that it's the most developed method we have at the moment.

I think one can go as far as saying that it is in fact the most documented and developed method we have ATM.
When I was learning ZZ, the hardest part was actually finding a guide that suited my learning style.
