New Names? Warning: Reading This Will Kill Brain Cells!

Quote:"If anyone has a move that could be called the Rotator, or the Radar, let us know" .."Maybe a case that does several cube rotations?"

I see what you mean but I guess you missed the subtlety - 'Rotator' is a palindrome (as is 'radar') so it would be suited to a reversible move.
I was going to say 'Rotavator' as it's the longest palindromic word I could think of, but no-one outside the U.K would know what I meant. (It's a Trademark for a ground tilling machine, or as my uncle would say, a "gardeners' motorbike")

There are already a few slang terms in cubing, sexy move, sledgehammer. I am sure there are more in existence I do not know about, so I think trying to make more is not worth it.

My Grandfather smoked his whole life. I was about 10 years old when my mother said to him, 'If you ever want to see your grandchildren graduate, you have to stop immediately.'. Tears welled up in his eyes when he realized what exactly was at stake. He gave it up immediately. Three years later he died of lung cancer. It was really sad and destroyed me. My mother said to me- 'Don't ever smoke. Please don't put your family through what your Grandfather put us through." I agreed. At 22, I have never touched a cigarette. I must say, I feel a very slight sense of regret for never having done it, because your thread gave me cancer anyway.

Ok. I have a plan. I'm going to start a company that works like the "name a star" companies. For a fee you can get your name, or the name of a loved one on your very own algorithm! You will get a special book (extra fee) with the name next to the special algorithm so you can show everyone how special it is!

...makes a GREAT mothers day gift!

@ViolaB: Buying fame? You should earn it. Invent a new move, then it will inherit your name if it's good enough. In windsurfing, Cesare Cantagalli got the Cheese Roll named after him, and Brad Drummond the Drum Roll. Every skateboarder knows the Ollie (invented by a guy called Alan?? I recall).

My favorite skateboard move is the U R2 F B R B2 R U2 L B2 R U' D' R2 F R' L B2 U2 F2

It was Rodney Mullen.

Also, OP was right about this thread killing brain cells, should have listened to the warning...

Kyle : Did you learn that "frontside flip" from Danny "Mr. CFOP" Way?
Steve "One-Handed" Caballero taught me everything I know about keyhole, what a guy.

Mullen turned the Ollie into a flatland trick. But it was originally a vert pool-riding move.

OK, back on topic. Here in the UK, the game of Bingo is popular (with old ladies, generally), and to make something dull seem a bit more entertaining, the 'Number Caller' uses various rhyming slang etc to represent the numbers. This kind of idea might provide names for the OLL cases, which all seem to be 'numbers'. Here's some explanation:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_British_bingo_nicknames
And if you want names for PLL letters, there's always the Formal "Radio telephony Alphabet", (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie etc), or if nonsense alternatives are your thing, there's the informal 'military' version:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_phonetic_alphabet
http://spitalfieldslife.com/2012/05/21/the-cockney-alphabet/
Alternatives I've heard of include C for miles; D for mation; E for Braun; F for vescence; L for bet; M for size, R for mo; T for dentures, U for mism; V for Espana.
(thanks to my old college lecturer Mr. Phillips for introducing us to this WW2-era humour)
