Hey all... Just picked up my first cube ever. Solved a Rubik's brand one maybe once or twice a decade or more ago. Figured I'd try my hand in casual speedcubing

I bought a Moyu Aulong v2. So far I really like it. So much smoother than the Rubik's brand I remember. I do have some trouble distinguishing between the white and yellow though in low/certain lights. Hopefully if I stick with it I'll try to find a better yellow shade.

I've only been practicing a week or so. My times are horrible and I still cant solve it without looking up a cheat sheet.

------------------------------
Cross: I seem to be pretty slow at this. I can do cross (face up) in about 20-30 seconds. I'd like to learn to do it face down (and obviously quicker)

F2L (Beginner Method - White corners): I can do this section in about 20 seconds.
F2L (Beginner Method - 2nd Layer): About 50-60 seconds

F2L (Advanced Method): 4 minutes 10 seconds

OLL (2-look): I only have memorized two algs so far, but most of my problem is finding a yellow cross combination

PLL: Havent even really practiced or looked at this yet.
------------------------------

If anyone has any tips or suggestions I'm all ears! Ive been looking at a lot of videos and tutorials.

A nice next step for you would be learning just to solve the whole thing without a cheat sheet, because then you can practice easier, and really, with your time breakdowns, practice is definitely what you need, just playing around and solving it will help bring those times down a fair bit!

Using CFOP I would assume this would require memorizing atleast 2 look oll and pll algorithms until I can recognize situations? I do think if I can get through cross and f2l quicker I'll be more inclined to start getting through all of the OLL+ situations.

Welcome to the forums! :)

Make sure you check out other methods before committing to CFOP; especially Roux and ZZ.
Thanks, I actually didn't know there were other methods so different, tbh. Looking at Roux, it didnt seem to fit my thought process. ZZ, on the other hand, seemed to look pretty good. I'll definitely give them a shot, but seems like CFOP might be the direction I head, at least for now.
