I started cubing 2 months ago (25th may 2008), currently sub 60 average with best average 10 55.91 (without inspection) and also best solve 41.25 (without inspection), don know how u guys reach speed of sub 40 and below with 2+ months of cubing =.=" should I concentrate on new methods or should I practice one method and master it to the max? I spent lots of time to learn 4x4,5x5,blindfold,f2l, and pll during these 2 months of cubing, and I read that many of u guys concentrate on a 4 steps LL method and get up to sub 30.. currently my method is finish 3 corners, then 4 edges, then use working corner put 3 2nd layer pieces in and then the remaining, and I do it with my 1st layer on top..(too used to it) I tried using it at my bottom face but end up slower by 10 secs+, and then use 3 steps for LL (orient edge, orient corners and then pll). Need advice from u guys on how to improve my f2l?(currently average 35 secs for f2l without inspection T_T)

First thing, inspect. You need to get in the habit of planning out cross and beyond when you get used to it. Second thing, keyhole F2L is good but you should start using intuitive Fridrich F2L. Badmephisto has a good tutorial on some algorithms and how to execute them faster. Other than that, you should start learning more LL algorithms. Also, start with cross on the bottom and F2L on bottom. It will improve your lookahead a lot.

Learn fingertricks, that's the first step. Learn all of the tricks, except for the double flick, it's not that important. Get a good cube, goes hand in hand with fingertricks. Learn F2L, that's what I did, and it helps alot. Then a week or two after you've got good at F2L, learn 4LLL. That means 2 look OLL, and 2 look PLL. You only have to learn about 14 algorithms. Practice all that, then learn full PLL. After about 4 months, you should be averaging 25ish.

Default answer: practice, practice, practice.

If you already currently use keyhole + Edge-OLL, Corner-OLL, PLL you are using a more advanced method than I am. Using that method I can average 25 on a normal day and 20.xx on a really good day. Just watch some of my videos and compare your solving to mine. Then determine what you should do to get faster.

And learning (intuitive) F2L couldn't hurt, but you times will probably go up before they go way down

Sry for late reply, few days didn come to this site..

anyway, thx very much pcharles93, I didn't know fridrich f2l is easy to learn by doing it intuitively. Few weeks ago I spent around few days trying to memorize all the fridrich f2l algorithms and end up with a result more worst than my original, now with intuitive fridrich f2l and just around 2 hours+ of practice managed to get an average of 35 second for cross + f2l.

I train without inspection because my friends in school all do the same, and I didn't know that official competitions can inspect until I joined this forum..

My LL is ok, ranging around 8~15 secs with 2 days of practice, but f2l suks...and may I know if there is any site or youtube video that specially teaches fingertricks very briefly and easy to learn? I suck in fingertricks...my fastest is around 4 turns per second with an average of 3 turns per second(not including delay time).
