In this video and in another one of my videos you can see me doing a d or d' move in my F2L to locate pieces. I feel it is slowing me down and it's not helping me at all. It is a nasty habit and I can't find a substitute for it so I can train my brain not to do it. Is there a another quicker way to locate pieces and not do any d or d' moves.

p.s. It just looks dumb doesn't it?

Do you track your f2l pieces? e.g. looking for the next pair while solving another. If not, start. slow down and try to look for your next pair let muscle memory take over the physical solving part so the mond can activily look ahead. I use d and d' moves but its to save cube rotations not look for pieces.

You are rotating the cube too often. My best guess is that your turnssped is too high.
You can solve the cube faster by turning slower and knowing where the F2L pair is and where it has to go.

You need to stop making y and y's during the F2L. Doing 1-2 during F2L is okay, but 4-5 times like you do in your solves is too often.
You need to slow down and take it easy man

One tip I think is useful is this:

Basically, you do the cross, then stop and plan the full solution of 2 F2L pairs. Solve them, and plan the solution of 2 other pairs. Try to make the solutions of the 2 pairs 'flow' into each other. It's not required to time yourself doing this, but I am sure that after practising this for a while, you'll start seeing more during the F2L in your normal solves.
