Hi guys, I'm 15 years old, and I've been speedcubing for a month and a half. On an average day am sub 35 (pb 23.94). The reason it took me so long to get to this point is because i was reluctant to commit to cfop. I went to the 3x3 meothds section of the speedsolving wiki and tried every method i could manage. I did cfop to start of course, but i tried roux (i could see how it was good but it wasn't for me), zz (which i stuck with for a while), Petrus, ssc (which was super confusing), Heise (i suck at heise), Ortega, waterman, tripod (i still don't understand it), no more pll (which i kind of liked), and many others. In the end i returned to cfop because although it isn't necessarily the best method it is one of the easiest to improve with and is the most researched method. Was it the right decision? I don't know. I'm probably going to go back once I’ve gotten better at cubing to see if i can do roux or some other method. But for now, cfop is best for me.
