My F2L...Easier way?

Well a few questions for you guys. I use intuitive F2L and I have been doing it for about a month now but anyway, should I start learning some algorithms that I can execute fast? Because intutive I have to bring everything that im working with into the top layer, unseperate them then set them up to be inserted. Is there an easier way? My F2L averages 26 seconds this way. I will make a video when I get home of how I do it if this is confusing to anyone. Thanks!

So as of now, this is what I am supposed to be doing? Yes I have began look ahead which has brought my times down tremendously. But I should continue bringing to top seperating then pairing and inserting? It just takes awhile haha.

I don't use any algorithms for my F2L. It isn't very fast but it's move-efficient.

I created my own ones for the most part. the only one I use is for the case where you have a solved edge and the corner positioned above it with the bottom colour facing up.

(U, R, U' R')x3

I prefer (R U R' U')*3

or (R' F R F')*3 if you want to preserve the orientation of the last layer.

I learnt this from Sarah Strong

I do U R U' R' x3 as well for that. But it is a very rare case. Any other algs people use that are fast?

Either is good. :)

I can't do F primes very fast though, especually after an R. It just puts my thumb in the wrong place so it makes me re-grip.

I wouldn't exactly call it rare.

Here is where I learnt what I do. It gives you some tips and pther pointers.

Well, don't just bring a corner out into the top layer--pay attention to how it will be oriented and try to have the edge already in the right spot to form an easy case. The algorithms do this, so have a look at them to see what they accomplish.

This is a nice resource: http://www.opticubes.com/cubing/f2l/

For the (R' F R F'), I do:

x (R' U R U') x'

Much faster :D

cube rotations for f2l, when i can just do the rfrf alg, and lookahead for oll. il stick with the rfrf alg

Thanks guys yeah I use all these but keep it intutitive. I suppose I am doing it right and yeah I need to work on setting up the other piece while I move a corner out.

No, you're wrong. It's more like:

l' (U R U') x'

If it takes you that long to do an x', you need practice. It also preserves the OLL orientation so you have better look ahead than other algorithms.

Musli i have been practicing. I am just making sure i am practicing correctly it would be fooloish to waste a month practicing wrong techniques am i right?

It is often not the most efficient way to bring everything to the top (with 3 move if that is what you mean) to solve. Jessica Fridrich said it is very rare that you need to bring a corner or edge to the top to proceed.

My guideline is every corner-edge pair insertion should be 7-8 moves unless it has good fingertricks then 10-12 moves is ok. I only bring up corners when I am desperate and have problem finding pairs or figuring out algorithms, like sometimes when corner is at bottom layer and edge is at middle layer.

In some cases, algorithms can reduce the move count to 3-5 but may not be beneficial if it hurts fingertricks too much.

7-8 moves... I will work on that. Thanks :D my f2l move average is around 42 moves... I should prolly shoot for 32-ish then eh? Also do you have a good H-Perm? Mine is slower then hell...

That was a bit off-topic but as of right now my time in sections is:
Cross- 5 seconds
F2l: 23 seconds
BL: 15 seconds

Basically if I cut down on my F2L by 10 seconds Ill be pulling a great 30 second average :D I'm hoping ot get here in about 2 weeks. Does that seem realistic?

Thanks guys!

u can check there for other H perms. Find the one thats most suitable to ur style. Your cross can be faster and also your Last Layer. If you want to cut your F2L by 10 seconds your going to have to practice A LOT u need great look ahead to get down into the 10-15 second area for F2L.
