My Cubing Journey

OH R1: 23.6, 29.2, 32.9, 30.1, 33.8

OLL skip into U-Perm for solve one (my first ever official OH solve). I guess that counts as meeting cutoff LOL

Second solve didn’t have any incredible luck, just a decently lucky cross into a good solve. So far I’m shocked. I fully expect a 40 lol

Third solve I kiiinda choked; I just had no lookahead for the first couple pairs. 2 look PLL because I don’t trust OH g perms, so good time still

Lucky LL made up for a kinda bad F2L. A bit sad that it wasn’t sub-30.

Fifth solve was decent

Kinda sad I didn’t get sub-30, but also I was expecting like maybe a 40ish average so I’m very happy with the average still (30.7x I believe)

Clock next

Clock R1: 11.4, 19.3, 20.9, 24.3, 13.6

Good solve one

Solve two I blame Tommy cherry because he was judging me and I was too busy trying to think of a funny joke about WRs to focus on the solve

Solve three I messed up both crosses. RIP average ig

Wow it just keeps getting worse. Once again somehow messed up the cross midsolve. I kinda wish I was recording and could see where I’m going wrong at. Maybe good final single?

Solve 5 was actually crazy lucky, but I went super slow because I didn’t want to mess it up, plus I messed up one of the corners. If I went full speed and didn’t mess up it could’ve been PR

Wow that was rough. Square-1 next; do I remember parity?

Square-1 R1: 1:42, 1:18

Yeahhhhh…I may or may not have had a 45+ second cube shape. So now the plan is basically pray for a free cube shape and a decent rest of the solve, that way I get sub-1 for cutoff

Solve two I messed up LL kinda badly. Don’t know if it would’ve made cutoff but it probably would’ve been close. Definitely not a good cube shape but also not 45 seconds.

No parity on either solve so that’s fun

I have a pretty long break before 3x3 R2, and then I’ll be done with the comp

Realistically what would it take for me to be sub-10
I'm not the best person to be answering this question, but lots and lots of practice, specifically targeted practice. Record your solves and write down on a notepad/mentally what mistakes you make and which ones you make most frequently, then practice and think about stopping those things until it becomes habit and you don't have to think, rinse and repeat. Also think about planning first pair in inspection or cross+1. Watch walkthrough/example solves and pick up tips and algs from other people who have already taken the work to be sub-10.

That sounds like a lot of work

Doing mega.
JK although it is fun. Making sure that all of your steps are efficient, watching other ways to solve pieces, advancements made towards inspection like cross+1, and while it wouldn't make a big difference, color neutral or at least dual-color neutral as better cross solutions would be made easier to find.

Ok but what if I were to randomly learn CLL

I was learning COLL before I stopped cubing and had learned everything except S/AS, but now I’ve forgotten literally almost all the algs and also COLL has limited usefulness. So what if COLL but 2x2

Plus 2x2 is easy so I don’t need to practice once I have all the algs fully learned /hj

Not really, you just have to turn reasonably fast. I average around 3.4 with LBL so it's definitely doable

You also average like 7 on 3x3. Those skills can and do transfer over to 2x2 (lookahead/planning in inspection and TPS mainly), and what you can do on a 2x2 fairly easily isn't easy for many other solvers. I average 15 on 3x3, and I've struggled to get beyond 4.2ish on 2x2. With enough specific dedicated practice I could probably improve to sub-4, but I definitely wouldn't consider it easy

Anyway to get back to what I originally said, I just like the idea of having something to do related to cubing, specifically learning algs. I don't care too much about cubing and never practice (at least right now I don't), so I don't really want to relearn/finish COLL. CLL is a pretty immediate upgrade to Ortega though, plus it changes the solving process quite a bit (as different as standard 2x2 can get), so it seems like a fun project.

I know it's not easy, it's very doable though. But yeah just learn CLL, it'll be useful as well as fun

Thanks!

I average sub-3.7 with ortega on a non-magnetic, non-lubed 2x2, so its definitely possible

Ok cool flex but also I already addressed this:
