My Cubing Journey

Pyraminx R1: 14.3, 11.3, 14.4, 10.1, 7.99

Solve 1 I did the wrong case from the wrong angle and had to solve half of it again

Solve 2 I accidentally solved a full layer and it took me like a full second to remember the alg. I ended up getting it though lol

Solve 3 I did the wrong L4E and then proceeded to write the time in the solve 4 slot because I thought I was a judge for some reason. So not only did I not review my algs at all since last comp, I’m also delirious!

Solve 4 was pretty good, easy L4E (I only had to do it once)

Solve 5 was a pretty good scramble and good execution

It’s pyraminx; I didn’t practice at all and I don’t really care about it. Although looking back I probably should’ve practiced it because I could’ve PR’d. Average will be barely below or over 12 seconds. Oh well, 4x4 next

Pyraminx average ended up being 11.86.

4x4 R1: 1:14, 1:10, 1:00, 1:08, 1:03

Solve 1 had rough first two centers and cross edges, everything else was pretty solid. Double parity.

Solve 2 had horrific centers but it’s not like those matter much anyway. I also think I somehow messed up edge pairing bc I definitely did an extra last 2 edges. Decent time though so I can’t complain. PLL parity.

Solve 3 definitely could’ve been sub-1; I got a Ja perm but paused for a split second because I thought it was PLL parity at first. Still a pretty good solve overall; I had good centers but paused in edges. No parity.

Solve 4 was pretty unremarkable; I zoned out part way through edge pairing but my brain just let muscle memory take over and I continued at regular speed. OLL parity.

Solve 5 I did the wrong color scheme but somehow got a 1:03. Definitely could’ve been a sub-1 if I didn’t mess that up. I’ll still take it though.

1:07-ish average, pretty good considering that I was around 1:15 in my limited practice.

Small break for Pyra finals, then 3x3 R2

3x3 R2: 21.6, 13.3, 16.9+, 13.7, 12.8

We don’t talk about solve 1.

Solve 2 was a good fluid solve. Very happy with it.

Solve 3 had a pause during OLL execution but other than that quite a good solve. Super unfortunate +2; it was basically the exact minimum off.

Solve 4 was very good, felt great. No major criticism. It’s really unfortunate that +2 killed the average.

Solve 5 was fantastic, TPS was especially good.

14.6ish average, which I’m very happy with. It just sucks that if I’d turned one degree more then it’d be 13.96 (PR 13.90 so at least I didn’t fumble that), which would’ve been really good for me. Oh well; still a massive improvement over my more recent comps.

Fun comp, glad I went. Overall I’m pretty happy with my times, even though it’s unfortunate that my PR streak is lost. Next comp is in September!

3x3 R1: 14.69, 23.21, 19.05, 14.33, 15.xx

Solve 1 somewhat easy cross. Slow turning but didn’t make any major pauses so it worked out. Did COLL but it was slow so probably about the same speed as regular LL

Solve 2 I forgot OLL and did the wrong G-Perm

Solve 3 I forgot a simple OLL again, genuinely no clue what happened to my muscle memory. I’ve gone far longer without solving and been totally fine. Decentish solve otherwise

Solve 4 was good, no major mistakes

Solve 5 was low-mid 15. Decent solve, a couple pauses cost me the sub-15. Did the OLL I messed up last comp so there’s some improvement

I’m happy with my performance aside from completely blanking on those OLLs. If the 19 or 22 had been normal solved it probably would’ve been a sub-15 average which I would’ve been quite happy with.

2x2 next

2x2 R1: 5.66, 4.69, 4.17, 5.59, 6.55

Solve 1 was a Y-perm, nothing I can do about that

Solve 2 was good, PBL was solved on top, adj on bottom, which is my second slowest aside from the Y perm

Solve 3 was well executed, but the same PBL as #2. Probably a mid to high 3 if I didn’t keep getting bad PBL

Solve 4 was full step but fairly lucky, but the absolute worst lockups ever stopped me from doing well

Solve 5 was terribly unlucky, and of course it ended with the same PBL as 2 and 3

Super unlucky 2x2. Pretty much the worst possible set of PBLs, and the one solve that had potential I got terrible lockups on. The group before me had very good scrambles. Oh well, that’s just how it goes with 2x2 🤷‍♂️

Worst event next, then lunch

I lied it’s time for OH

OH R1: 30.55, 44.46, 42.42, 27.97, 30.71

Solve 1 was pretty good

Solve 2 was very slow and also I messed up the OLL

Solve 3 was alright I just forgot how to do the OLL

Solve 4 was lucky but also very well executed, unfortunately I got a g-perm and had to do 2-look PLL

Solve 5 was very well executed through F2L, but I was a bit slow in executing last layer. Could’ve been sub-30

The last time I did any OH was a couple comps ago, and it kinda shows lol. I clearly still have the same skill level as shown by the 3 solves around 30 (my PR), but I clearly am rusty at recognizing and doing algs one handed.

Square-1 next; I DONT REMEMBER PARITY

Update I think I relearned it but I’m only 80% sure I remember the rest of the algs, but I don’t wanna scramble it because I think my group is up soon. Cutoff is 1:00, my PR single is 1:18 (I don’t have an average). Getting an average would be cool and it really just requires a quick cube shape followed by not having a meltdown

SQ1 R1: 1:15, 1:11

Solve 1 was PR by 3 seconds. Slow but not terrible CS, no parity but beginners method takes so many looks that it still took forever to do PBL(?). With a decent amount of luck I could definitely get sub-1 but it’s not super likely.

Solve 2 had a very quick CS, but OBL(?) and PBL(?) took forever. I remembered parity! It was just very slowly executed.

PR’d in both solved so that’s pretty cool. Making cutoff (1:00) would’ve been nice, but I wasn’t really expecting it. Overall I did pretty well.

2x2 R2 next

2x2 R2: 4.49, 4.02, 5.22, 4.31, 4.99

Solve 1 was good

Solve 2 was a good scramble, I had a hesitation that made me miss sub-4

Solve 3 I had a pause and my 2nd worse PBL

Solve 4 had no bars but otherwise a good scramble

Solve 5 was a normal scramble but I executed pretty slowly

This is more what I expected in R1. The lack of practice definitely slowed me down; that plus the cold meant my turning was pretty slow. But still a decent average with decent times.

I have a break and then 3x3 R2
