My Cubing Journey

16, 13, 13, 22, 18 for 3x3 R1.

16 was an easy 13, I just had one big pause.

The two 13s were good, one was a pretty good scramble one was average with good execution.

22 was I think the first sup-20 I’ve had since my very first comp 3 years ago. Overall terrible solves, plus I corner twisted.

18 was a meh scramble but it really came down to me being bad at cubing. I also corner twisted again, but I again caught it.

I got a cheesesteak. But just at a sub place not a cheesesteak place

Pyra times: 12.6, 12.6, 12.0, 10.1, 11.6

I don’t care about Pyra. Actually I don’t care about any of this. But like, yay? PR single, from mid 10 to 10.1. I didn’t actually bother to relearn L4E, so I did surprisingly well for being on the fly

If I sound too apathetic it’s just because I’m tired (I got up at a bit before 6 after staying up until 1ish) and Pyraminx quite simply isn’t that exciting

4x4: 1:03, 1:06, 1:14, 1:01, 1:13

1:03 I got distracted by the judge and it honestly should’ve been sub-1. Didn’t really feel like asking for an extra

1:01 had OLL parity into G-perm, rip sub-1

1:14 was a poor solve, 1:13 I just forgot how to edge pair.

1:06 was a decent solve, about what I’d expect to average.

A couple event break, then 3x3 round 2.

3x3 R2: 15.1, 17.6, 17.5, 16.8, DNF

Decent first solve. 17.6 was a scuffed easy scramble because I paused on OLL. 17.5 I dropped the cube on pickup on another good scramble. 16.8 I’m just bad at turning. DNF was intentional since it was like a 25, so I just stopped in the middle of my H-Perm and quit (several second pause in OLL and 3 OLL algs)

That’s it for me in the comp. Was a lot of fun hanging out, even though my solves were frankly terrible.

I have another comp in a couple weeks, looking forward to getting another 17 average!

Comp on Saturday. I probably need to relearn square-1 (again), plus a bit of OH practice so I remember how to turn properly. Other than that, the events are: 2x2, 3x3, OH, Clock, Pyraminx, Square-1.

2 I want another sub-5 average, I doubt I’ll get PRs. 3 I don’t really care; it seems to get worse every comp. OH I literally have no frame of reference for my skill, but I should be able to make cutoff easily (1:00). Clock I’d like sub-15, but it’s possible I get close to my PR average. For pyraminx I’m expecting another 12ish average, a sub-10 single would be cool. Square-1 I’d like to make cutoff (1:00), but I don’t have too high of hopes.

I currently have a PR streak of every comp
I’ve ever gone to (5 atm), and it’s guaranteed to become 6 because of OH. I kinda like the idea of keeping that up as long as possible, just because it’s a perfect streak. Although once I go to a comp with no new events it probably will end, unless I actually practice

3x3 round 1: 17.9+, 12.6, 21.1, 16.x, 15.1

Realized as my group was being called up that I brought every cube except a 3x3. Quickly borrowed a tornado (v3 I think) though.

First solve actually was gonna be decent, but the cube was faster than I expected so my Y-Perm took ages (and then +2’d).

Second solve was a 3 move cross and a decent solve.

I don’t wanna talk about 3rd solve

4th solve was what I expected this comp to be; bad lookahead and indecisive turning.

5th solve was decent. I did 2-look OLL so it def could’ve been sub-15.

At least I got a good single. 2x2 R1 next.

Pyra R1: 11.6, 10.4, 7.6, 7.6, 8.8

First solve was alright, very much showed my lack of confidence in L4E cases. About what I expected

Second solve I did the correct L4E case but the unsolved tip confused me so I did like 3 extra sledges lol

Third solve was very lucky, but I accidentally did the whole first layer so I paused for a second trying to remember how to do LBL. Fortunately I remembered quickly and it worked out.

Fourth solve was reasonably lucky, but it all just kinda…worked

Fifth solve was very lucky again

I mean…alright? I guess a complete lack of practice (legitimately 0 practice or warmup solves since the last comp) pays off if you get lucky enough.

OH next, I guess I gotta go borrow another cube. Haven’t solved OH in ages so I have no expectations except going under the 1:00 cutoff.
