My Cubing Journey

I'm back from my competition! It's actually still going on, but all that's happening today is 4/5/multi blind, FMC attempt 3, and 6x6. ~85 people signed up for the comp, but a lot of people ended up canceling. 41 people total competed, so really small comp

3x3 Round 1
Average: 19.85
Single: 17.58

Wow! This isn't insane for me at home, but I'd be happy with this average at home. Wasn't expecting this at all! My times were:

19.03+ - +2ed the solve, not sure how exactly I messed up the AUF. Would've been crazy to have a counting 17
22.21 - Meh
(17.58) - Amazing solve
(24.78) - Got nervous
18.32 - Another great solve

For a 19.85 average and 19th place in the comp, enough to bring me to round 2!

2x2 Round 1
2x2 went ok, I got a 6.24 average. I also ended up switching cubes with my judge by mistakenly, we both had a Valk 2M on the table(I was competing with it and he was playing around with it), and I guess I ended up picking up his. I dunno how to set up cubes and he does, so I just got a free setup for my 2x2 XD (Also he tried them both and decided the one I think is mine was better, and I told him the better one was his. So I didn't steal it from him, he decided he liked "mine" better). I really need to learn Ortega

3BLD 1st Round
Triple DNFed, nothing exciting. On solve 2 I was halfway through my memo, realized I did it wrong, re did my memo, couldn't remember anything, and ended up giving up and not even putting on my blindfold. It was a cumulative time limit so I wanted to have time for my 3rd attempt. Also Tommy Cherry got a 16.92 single, 6th in the world. I missed it cause I was solving when it happened

Skewb 1st Round
Isn't Skewb such a fun word? I got 17.15 average, which is good for me, and got an 8.10 on my last solve because I got a sledge LL. I'm probably never going to beat those times :P

4x4 1st Round
1:18.73 average! This is good for me at home(not insane, but good), everything went great. Oh, and Sean Hartman got a PB single and freaked out :P

5x5 1st Round
lol I suck at 5x5 :P cutoff was 2:30, I average incosistently around 4:00

Solve 1: 3:47.34 - Solid solve, went great
Solve 2: 3:56.31 - I got to L4C(redux), then by mistakenly solved 2 opposite centers instead of adjacent :/ I ended up getting a good time, it probably would've been around 3:30 without the fail.

3x3 2nd Round

Didn't go great. Got a 22.13 average, and I got a DNF by the last M move in my Uperm :/

So, that's all my results. I judged literally all day, since they were really low on judges. I judged Tommy Cherry for 4x4 finals, and he was across from me for 3x3 finals. I also gave him a total of 3 +2s and a DNF throughout the comp lol

In the 3x3 finals, Tommy got his PB single of 6.18. The very next solve, the person next to him and the one I was judging(Sean Hartman) got his PB of a 5.89. Once again, he flipped out XD

Oh, also Cale Schoon was there, I didn't talk with him at all though(or at least nothing but reminding me to sign my name first, I forgot a few times throughout the comp. I was mostly good though)

Awesome! Do you plan on doing any more competitions?

Just got a great time with a 1LLL, 13.27. Here's the reconstruction:

Scramble: D2 B' L2 F U' R F' D' R B2 R2 D2 R F2 U2 D2 L' D2 R' B2

x2 // Inspection

F L U' F R2 D // Cross

y R U' R' U2 L' U L // 1st Pair

U R U2 R' U2 R U' R' // 2nd Pair

U2 U R' U2 R y' L' U' L // 3rd Pair

U2 L U2 L' U2 L U' L' // 4th Pair

F R U R' U' F' // LL

13.27 Seconds, 43 Moves STM, ~3.24 TPS

Looking back there were a couple things I could've done better, most notably:

Should've taken out the pair while doing the cross
During the 3rd pair I should've done a y instead of y' to insert the pair in the back slot
The U3 for the 3rd pair

I did another run through of it(same solution, minus the U3) and got sub-10. Probably could've been PB, but still a great solve overall. I knew I was gonna get a 1-look OLL, but didn't expect the PLL skip

So, I've decided to become color neutral. Right now, it feels like while I'm solving there's nothing in particular I need to work on, other than the normal(learning PLL, back slots, more efficient F2L, turning faster while still looking ahead, etc.). I figured I might as well start working on CN, as it'll only get harder. I'm gonna do it one color at a time, starting with yellow. I'm slow, so I did an Ao50 instead of an Ao100 lol. Here are my results:

Some good singles, and not many awful ones. Normal average is ~19, so I'm happy with 21.10 for my first 50 solves. Btw, these were my first 50 yellow cross solves, didn't do any of them before them.

Main weaknesses:
F2L lookahead
F2L recognition
Finding pieces in F2L
F2L.

LL is great :)

After yellow I would recommend going from most vivid colors to least vivid. Its wierd, but it works; In color neutrality you have to recognize shade instead of colors. Also, picture the cross color glowing.

I might try becoming CN soon. I already get somewhat normal times with other cross colors, but I still mostly use white cross. @Owen Morrison @Micah Morrison I know both of you are really good at CFOP. Have any tips?

I'm not fully color neutral yet, but one thing I've noticed is that you have to stay dedicated and motivated. At your level, it shouldn't be too hard to become color neutral.

Yes

What do you mean "at my level?" lol
The faster you are, the harder it is to become CN. If you’re not used to even doing white cross, and are averaging like 1:50 with beginner’s, you can quite easily say, hmmm what if I try doing red instead of white! But if you’re averaging 7 seconds, it‘s very hard, since you’re breaking a lot of habits and routines you’ve been practising since you started.

Quick question, what comp was this?
