I've been getting back into cubing recently, and I cannot stop myself from thinking about something else while I'm solving. It's not one specific, big thing; it's a bunch of little things. Like about the weather, if I hear a noise in my house, or just whatever I'm planning on doing later in the day. It throws off my whole solve a lot. I had a 50-second 4x4 solve because I did 323 edges 3 times by accident. I haven't been diagnosed with ADHD or anything like that, and it's not my attention span. Cubing is the only thing affected.

The only reason I'm really confused about this is that when I used to cube before, it helped with things like this. It took my mind off everything because I had to focus so hard. I still need to focus to get good times, but I genuinely can't make myself focus on anything longer than a 3x3 solve.

Anybody have any advice?

idk if this would be helpful, but i also space out during solves. it kinda helps with muscle memory, as I think about what I'm even doing with my life. its just that i solve without thinking but its not like what u said about throwing solves

everytime i do 4x4 in a comp i get distracted pretty easily, but it only applies for 4x4. Anything like someone moving their chair, someone passing by the table in front of me, etc. One time at a championship i was thinking of a bunch of random things during a 4x4 solve and I was like “bruh what are you doing focus on the solve”

if i force myself to lock in though my 4x4 solves get better

does not apply for 3x3 though (everytime i lock in i mess up the cross💀)

I actually listen to things like science and aviation documentaries (not the ones that require you to really look at the video) during my solves. Probably not the best way to improve but it’s a decent way to learn things and be productive.

But this also doesn’t seem to affect my solve times negatively even though I’m not fully focused on the solve
