Im sub-2 with it btw. My best so far is a ~1:35. I have like 5-6 sub-1:40s. 1:57.52 ao100

I'm reading posts about megaminx out of curiosity, and i would like to say that, imho, the only way to be fast in minx is practise. (except learning algs for LL). If you will solve few thousand cubes, you will see a progress.
4 months ago my times was about 2:45.xx. now, my unofficial pb is 1:19.xx with avg about 1:40.xx.

btw. i'm newbe on this forum and... hi to all.

I'm new to megaminx, just bought it about two weeks ago. I figured out how to solve it after about ten hours of playing with it using the moves I came up with when I figured out a beginner method for the 3x3 cube and now I'm interested in speed, but I don't know where to start because I have difficulty just finding pieces.. I see you all can solve whole steps in the time it takes me just to find a piece so what do you do to find them so quick?

I currently have a shengshou megaminx. Should I get a Dayan or Yj?

No, get a Qiyi Galaxy sculpted. the new shengshou aurora megaminx is also good in terms of performance but its harder for me to grip with the thinner outer layers compared to the galaxy.

practice solving using the same exact color scheme on S2L. So basically always start on pink for S2L (using that color as an example)and go left or right until you're back to pink. Once you're used to the color scheme, recognition becomes a little easier. Also a tip don't rotate the megaminx too much up and down, the more you do that the more you tend to lose sight of pieces and miss them. Try to look over on the backside, tilt your head more than you actually rotate your cube. This should help recognition and once your used to it times will drastically increase cause its much easier to find pieces.
