I can solve 3x3x3 in 1 minute using layer by layer now, and before I was going to look into Fridrich I wanted a bit of a new challenge, so I bought a 4x4x4. It's a Rubiks 25th anniversary edition 4x4x4, now it's quite tight, the outer layers go pretty smooth, but when doing slices it's horrible.

Now I was wondering if you could lube it the same way as 3x3x3's? ( as in turn U 45°, take the edge out, spray silicone in the opening (or take it apart & spray each piece individually...), reassemble it), or are there other ways to do it?

Thanks

I'm asking myself the same question cause some people say the normal way damages more than it benefits

I had a stiff 4*4 until i siliconed it. All I did was just spray it in the cube and work it in. If it is still a little stiff just play with it and move the pieces around. That will help wear pieces down on the inside of the cube. You can do it pretty much the same way as a 3*3, only its just more pieces.

A 4*4 is nothing compared to how bad a 5*5 cube is. With my 4*4 i could atleast turn sides. With my 5*5 i got, i had to grip each side and turn them with a lot of force. It wasn't smooth at all. It took me a while to get the whole cube smooth with silicone spray and wearing it down.
