Looking for: Zhanchi Silk and Old Plastic Zhanchi

I don't know where or when this rumor started (if you have REAL information about this plz email me with the full details). I get this question a lot and my answer is always the same;

I assemble and sell a lot of Zhanchi's and I have not noticed any change in plastic since the initial release last year. I have asked my supplier about this and he's unaware if there have been any changes.

I think there's a mix up with the Original Guhong I.

"Old plastic Zhanchis" are Zhanchis made out of a softer plastic than the plastic used today. It was more expensive so they stopped making them. I think they used the plastic which stickerless Zhanchis are made from. ABS in the old ones, ABS and PVC in the new ones. Predominantly PVC, the plastic underground water pipes are made from.

Hm. okay, thanks for the info everyone :)

Zhanchi silk at cubicle.us.
for the original plastic ZhanChi, i don't think there are anymore left, as CrazyBadCuber got the last one a week or so ago... you can see it on his channel. Other people have some, but unless they are willing to sell them, theres really no other way of doing it. Hope you find one of the though :) I want one too! (original plastic zhanchi)

LOL, yes there is a difference, and the plastic did change.

Link to source please?

From what I can tell, the plastic on cubes gets softer as it is broken in, so 'old plastic' Zhanchi's are just old ones. I believe izo on this tbh, but I'd love to see Real Proof that the plastic has changed.

Ya, a source would be terrific. There's only say-so right now and that slowly distorts the truth. Might as well call these Jesus Zhanchi's.

I still have 8 white Zhanchi's from when I first got them in July 2011. There is absolutely no difference in plastic with the black ones I recently had in stock. I'm a bit concerned on this topic because I've had people offer me double retail price for a supposed original plastic Zhanchi. I don't claim mine to be original plastic because there's no evidence.

*** is this ABS with PVC thing still going on?
If you mix ABS with anything to improve its properties it is PC. Not PVC

Regarding the story of there being different versions/materials:
There was some good info on this (by stefan, yours truly and quotes of Calvin ) in the Force cube thread but that no longer exists.
The info is probably still fragemented in some other plastic / color threads.

EDIT: found it http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/showthread.php?30365-plastic&p=718088&viewfull=1#post718088

Basically in the old version they had black and white in ABS/PC, other colors in pure ABS
Then they switched to all colors in pure ABS

Massive LOL at all those guys *****ing and moaning about the old versions being better and ABS/PC making worse cubes:)

PS:
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFS: even the wike page on Guhongs has this crappy PVC story in it!!!! Can someone please remove that ****?

the 'Old Dayan' is the Guhong I.

It's too bad that the old mf8 forum was closed. There was a thread where Dayan himself talked about the change of plastics in the Guhong I.

I don't understand why those who have an old ZC can't tell the difference. You don't even have to be smart to realize they're different plastic, if you've had both. I have 2 old plastic ZC's, and 5 new ones. They're definitely different, in sound AND feel, and it has nothing to do with how broken in they are. Out of the box, the old ones feel so much better. I can't say anything about the white ones, like Izovire has, but the black ones have definitely changed. I still have my original one from the pre orders, when they first came out, and I recently bought another from Modcuber (which came from Phil Yu at the Cubicle) who bought several of them, brand new. They originally came from Nats 2011, where Phil bought several. Modcuber bought 5 of them, sold me one and Dan (CBC) one, and is keeping the rest. They basically feel much much smoother, faster, and kind of rubbery, almost. When you squeeze them in your fingers, they feel much less sturdy than the recent ones. It's kind of like the difference between the Ling Yun v1 and v2. The v1 is the old plastic, and it never changed. The v2 is the new plastic. It's a slightly lighter black color (very hard to notice, but if you look at the new plastic in the light, you can sometimes see little rainbow looking spots, hard to explain) and looks like a graphite color, whereas the old plastic is solid, dark black. Old plastic feels much smoother, cuts corners with ease, and is just completely effortless solving, and very quiet. The new plastic has this catchy lock up, scratchy friction, and a very loud smack sound when the pieces hit each other. I wish I could let people try my cubes. My old ZC from when they first came out has been used for quite a while and feels broken in. When I bought a new (old) one from the Phil Yu batch (which were never used), I could tell it was brand new because there were no scratch marks inside, and it had that new cube feel, BUT compared to a new new ZC, it was still MUCH better, smoother, silent, and faster. It had more of a crispiness than my old old one because it was new and unused, but still much much less crispy than a new one. Even a new broken in one feels much more rough than the old ones brand new. I barely ever use the new old one because I don't want it to wear out. It's such a great cube.
The first time I realized they had changed, I had my original one for a little while, and I hardly ever used it because it was lubed with Maru lube and just wasn't that good (until I bought Lubix). Then, I bought another one from Lubix which felt completely different. It was much sturdier and very scratchy feeling. I remember thinking it was because it was Lubix modded, but I thought "It can't be THAT different just from a 48 point edge mod." So, I bought another one brand new from a regular store, and it felt exactly like the Lubix one. Still nothing like my original one. That was the first time I had realized they changed the plastic. Then I bought a few more, and finally, this old one from the Nats 2011 batch, and it felt just like my old one did when I first got it.

Okay I'm pretty annoyed now (just got a nice friendly email). I'm going to contact Mr. Bao or someone that has worked with manufacturing ALL dayan 3x3's. The information on the plastic seems to only go as far back to Calvin's conversations and posts, who is also a reseller like myself. To clear up this confusion we need real concise information from the source.

I don't care if the plastic has changed or not. I do care though, where people are spending more money than they need to. I have been offered double several times for 'old plastic' and my response is "idk if it is and why pay more for something that might not be different?". Even with confirmation of the different plastic I won't raise prices...

sorry for making everyone so riled up, my intention was totally not this, I just wanted to buy something...

Okay I'm back and I did my homework (my wife did most of it, obviously b/c chinese).

The Guhong I is the only Dayan 3x3 that has made any real changes... NOT the Lingyun, Lunhui, or Zhanchi... here's an image link of the conversation my wife had with Mr. Dayan:

I hope this cleared up the rumor.
