I will have you all know that for the 600 dollars i spent on this ring i got 2.5 carats worth of diamonds set in a 18 carat white gold band the main stone is one carat and the other two are .75 each. if you cant help build me a cube for the occasion or give some advise and are just looking to sit her and ridicule what i paid or the ring i got dont post but rather turn around and ask your mother how many carats her engagement ring has and then aske her to buy you another 100 dollars worth of cubes.

When do you plan to propose? Couldn't you save up a little? Gosh! I've already started to save up for the cube! Thanks! And I don't even have a girlfriend!

Damn, you're girl's gonna be happy! That's one smexy ring!

I suggest maybe getting a normal 3x3x3 and then put one side so super loose that it has to pop and the screw will be in just far enough that when it pops the center will pop out and the whole top layer will fall off revealing a ring which is inside. I don't know if the cube could turn with the ring inside though... Might want to try with a foot cube since that is very large and could store a ring.

And then if that happens to be oriented as the D face when it pops out, the ring goes falling?

a very easy thing to do is to build the QJ/Meffert's 4x4 without the core, and ask her to solve it...it will then explode and there you have the ring box.

perhaps this is a little too cheap, but I dunno what else you could do with 20 bucks.

Do this. It'll be great cause at first she'll be mad you tricked her but when she sees the ring her emotions will totally change. Practice doing the prank a few times cause assembling these cubes without the core is pretty hard and takes some getting used to. Or, if you don't care if the cube can be solved again later glue some pieces together so when it comes apart she'll see the ring immediately and not a jumble of cubies and putting it together will be really easy.

Nobody's going to make you a custom Gift Cube for $20, or even $50.

Better idea: hide the ring somewhere, or put it in a combination lock box, and then write the combination/clue on a cube (going between stickers, and avoiding centers) and scramble it. All it costs you is a hiding place and a set of stickers.

I sort of have an idea for a cube like that, but it's hard to explain. If I ever end up making one, I'll let you know. By the way, do you know if she's color neutral or not? It would be kind of hard for the top layer to open up if you don't know what the top layer's going to be.
