The top layer on my best cube started squeaking :-(

To fix the squeaking I swapped the center stickers:
U & D
L & R
(F & B remain the same)

I was going to re-sticker the whole thing but I'd a Rubik's logo on D so I just carefully changed the stickers. :-)

Does anyone know how to stop the squeaking on a store bought cube other than my short term solution?

Do you find it easier to execute moves on your cube if you flip it upside down? (normal wear and tear make it difficult with the normal grip?)

Tim.

Seriously, I hate squeaking cubes but mine are DIY so I can fix em. Is there no way you can get any lube dripping down into that part of the core -- maybe stand it up and let gravity take some into that part. I can't remember if they are totally sealed or if there is a gap you could inject some lube into.

I can probably spray some CRC 808 into it BUT I was under the impression that this was what caused it to squeak!

As far as I know, if a silicon film sets on the spring then when you twist the spring around the screw there's more friction which causes it to squeak. [can someone confirm?]

Cheers,
Tim.

Well, you usually don't want to lubricate the core, as it yes, will squeak. The lubricant will somehow get inside and well.., annoyance arises.
