Is it really that HARD to get sub-5 avg. with Ortega for 2x2?

Hey guys,

i hardly ever get sub-5 avg. with Ortega for 2x2.

My best average is like 5.14 seconds (of 5)

Is there any to get sub-5 avg. with this Method?

-Do i need to learn more algs. for PBL (Mirrors)
-Do i need a good cube? ( I use Eastsheen, but after lubrication, it locks up easily)
-Need a better look ahead? (I do have a good look ahead after OFL (Orient First Layer) and then see OLL straight away; But i don't often see PBl cases as easily).

Thanks for your help!

yesterday i believe i got a sub 5 avg with ortega

just practice more, i use LanLan 2x2

Update:
this is the average i got today

Session average: 4.76
1. (4.38) U2 F R2 U' F2 U R U2 F' U'
2. 5.03 U' F U R' U F R' U
3. 4.75 R2 U' F2 R U2 R U2 R
4. 4.49 R F' R U' F R2 U2 F R'
5. (5.69) F U2 F R F' U2 F2 R2 U'

Right well first of all how do you get sub 5 avgs if your Pb is 5.14? I guess like 5.14 means sub 5

You could try out other cubes like a LanLan, when i first used one i was amazed at how much better than my Eastsheen it was.

- Learn all these: http://dtwoner.110mb.com/index.php?p=1_40_PBL
- Get sub 1.5 if not sub 1 with all of them.
- Practice OLL algs (sub 1 with all of them).
- Always work out the permutation of the bottom layer and where the bar will be. I like to force it so that the bar is almost always in DB.
- Force Y permutation on the bottom layer as often as you can, since apart from the PLL skip case, it gives the best PBLs. If you notice you are going to make a layer, not a face, cancel the last move with R2 F2 R2.

And obviously the P word.

I don't think its that hard to get. I don't always get them but my averages of 12 are 5.xx or lower the majority of the time with Ortega. I think at this point learning CLL is probably a good idea. My averages have gotten slower lately because I'm making a fully permuted bottom layer and then just doing orientation followed by permutation to prepare for using CLL.

- Look ahead to bottom layer permutation during insp.
- look ahead to OLL during insp.
- Learn PBL from all angles

also getting Lanlan would help too, but sub-5 is easy with ES

With Ortega it can be fairly hard. You should know what the pattern will be on your first side and know what OLL you are going to have. Practicing like that and knowing all the algs that Escher posted should help. But if you wanna be faster CLL isn't too hard to learn.

Just yeSterday I achieved my best sub-5 2x2 avg-12 which was 4.34'' with Ortega. I dont know how many algorithms you use but I currently know something like 13 OLL and 11 PBL's. You should get a bette cube like a Lan Lan for example. It is indeed HARD but not impossible. My best average-5 is of 4.05''. I actually lowered my times a lot with my LL.

You don't really need that many OLLs and PLLs to sub-5. I think you just need to get good at the algs and recognition.

EDIT: not sure if this would help but this is my ao12 from a long time ago

You should just switch now. All you're doing ATM is LBL.
