Quick poll for everyone! After I decide to end voting, I will start a debate on the topic. I intend to keep it civil, and if anyone chooses to escalate the discussion beyond reason I will have their posts deleted and kindly ask them to leave the thread. I would like to keep this a fun, wholesome talk about this topic. Thanks!

No, just no.

I would like to say that I have been in marching band, Esports, baseball, wrestling, and other extracurriculars, and I would say that Highschool Marching Band is NOT a sport. I know that some people and schools do take it more seriously, and if, and only if, that is true, I could count as a sport for those people.

I apply the same logic to Esports. I compete for a college and get paid to do so, so I think that for me it counts as a sport.

Oh yeah, definitely not concert band. All the trombone section does is sit around and wait for the rests to stop. Last year, we had one song with 42 measures of rest in a row. Only for the trombones. And the song was 58 measures long. :(
I'm in percussion and have seen pieces with up to 50 measures of rest for marimba.

That's just wrong, percussion is really important. Our brass section has been joking that we could count areas marked as piano or pianissimo as rests because everyone else plays quiet there too, and if we don't play really stupidly quiet they can't hear the flutie patooties and clarinets. 🙄
