In what order should I learn things in?

I'm new to cubing having started learning the LBL method about three to four weeks ago. Using just the LBL method and no finger tricks i can get about a 57 second average. My question was in what order should I learn things. I want to eventully learn full CFOP with and intuitive F2L, but what order should i learn the CFOP? And should I learn finger tricks first?

I recommend learning the F2L, this step will be useful for your whole life (unless you switch methods). It's easy, as you learn intuitive. Don't learn F2L algorithms yet. When you think you've got F2L down, and you can even do some/most cases blind, it would be nice to start memorizing algorithms. 2 look LL is very easy, it is a small "chunk" of Full look, but it is kind of a stepping stone. PLL algorithms tend to be easier, although 2look OLL algorithms are just as easy IMO. Now, I would just practice all these steps quite a bit first, you can get 30-40 second average with just a few months of practice. Now, all is left is the hardest step, Full LL algs. 78 algorithms. A lot of them are very easy, though only around 1/4 of the algs take time to memorize. This final step could take a few months if you're hardcore, or up to a year if you're busy. Then all is up to external tricks and practicing to master.

And, fingertricks and special tricks and tips can be done and mastered in the middle of learning those steps^. You might search on youtube and stuff if you have time, and you might as well practice those fingertricks while learning algs. Another thing you might find, are F2L algs. These are not neccesary, but they can help you if you have a hard F2L case. Just learn some algs in your spare time.

Good Luck. :)

IMO
1 F2L intuitive.
2 2 look OLL/PLL
3 full PLL
4 full OLL
If you need help with F2L then you can look up some algs and after seeing how they work you will eventually get better at it. Finger tricks will come naturally. But what cube do you use? Bad cubes cause bad fingertricks.

I also suggest intuitive F2L. It takes more time to learn intuitive F2L than algorithms based F2L (unless you're like me and just can't remember algs), but you'll really benefit from the time you spend learning it. If it takes a week before you understand how to make a pair when both the edge and the corner are already on the top layer, well you just spent a week getting to know your cube, which is more than important.

I switched to Roux after about two months of CFOP, and I gotta say that I'm greatful I got to play with my cube before I tried an intuitive method. So yes, it paid off.

How can you first learn fingertricks?

Even though I typically like to disgaree with Insane569: I fully agree with his order of things.
What you can do during learning 2 look OLL / 2 look PLL: watch some videos of good cubers to see what fingertricks they use.

Best resource for fingertrics: go to a competition of cube meetup and learn from other cubers!

1) F2l
1.1) Full PLL
1.2) Full OLL

For me, fingertricks came naturally, just keep doing it with a good cube and you'll learn quickly, also, I think the 2Look's are dumb. Just my opinion.

So what did you do for OLL before you knew all OLL's;
- Rescramble your cube?
- Apply a random OLL and hope to run into a OLL you know?
- or did you use an OLL of which you know it would give you an OLL you know? = 2 look OLL

to the OP:
2 look OLL / 2 look PLL are the stepping stone to full OLL / PLL: all the algs in 2 look are actual OLL / PLL algs that you will keep using:)

Check out Badmephisto site and youtube for some good info.

Only reason we're rivals is because the elimination game.
Watch badmephistos F2L vids. You can learn alot from them. But you're not gonna learn everything in one sitting. Watch them multiple times.

Wow thanks for all the input so fast, looks like ill be busy for a while lol.

Currently I use a stickerless Guhong, but I'm currently waiting for the arrival of a Zhan Chi that should come today or tomorrow.

Nope... R' D' R D until entire top layer was oriented, then applied Perms

1) Fingertricks
2) 4-Look Last Layer
3) Intuitive F2L from Badmephisto
4) 1-look PLL
5) Algorithms for harder F2L cases
6) 1-look OLL
7) Perfecting stages

I'm currenty at the F2L stage, have learned it, but trying to look ahead is a problem for me.
