In general is sub 30 possible?

I Got my first cube at Christmas and I'm sub 26, And I don't have the power of youth on my side. IMO I don't think everyone can achieve sub 30. I have tried explaining the cube to a few people who even after 10 mins do not understand how it moves. They just cant understand how to get a cross piece into the layer they need. Some people may think that if thy just practiced they would learn, but these are the people who even after playing Xbox for years, cannot press a button without looking at it.

You have to listen to those, who really know - it Is possible!

I know that its not possible. People who believe it is really haven't moved outside of their protective bubble. There are a lot of incredibly thick people out there, there are people that don't know how to operate a microwave properly or even understand that they have to feed there kids every night, you you think these people are capiable of sub 30? No chance.

If a certain individual lacks dedication and perseverance toward the subject, then yes: it's unlikely they would make it to sub 30. But that can be said about any goal one sets oneself in life. I think the original post was meant more along the lines of "is it possible for anybody to reach sub 30 with a strong headed mindset and consistent practice?". In which case I would say: yes, it is.

You don't have to be smart to solve the cube with the assistance of an existing method. Your average first beginners method solve is just "joining the dots", but if you practice that beginners method long enough, it will become fluent IMO. And it is possible to be sub 30 with beginners method so...

Good beginners methods even use algs for cross, so you don't need much intuition at that point.

I don't see how the "protective bubble" part fits into your statement. Care to elaborate?

A) I'm in a protective bubble because I'm unaware that "dumb" people exist?
B) I'm in a protective bubble because I would feel less good about myself if literally anybody were able to achieve what I have?

Not everyone posseses a strong mind, so thusly prooving the point that not everyone can become sub 30. Judging by most of the posts on this forum 80% of the members of this forum are at school in America, and seem to see 'everyone' as the other kids in their class. This being the 'protective bubble.' I have visited some god awful places and met some people thats nievely and sheer lack of brains would blow your mind. I would put money that no matter how hard they tried, those people would not be able to reach sub 30.

I don't think that proves anything.

Thing is; people can choose to be determined at something or not. I don't think that genuine determination is something you can generally be born with a lack of. Depends on where life puts you at a said moment.

Applemobile, I am new and don't have an answer to the sub-30 question, but I don't know that your argument is valid. I am 30 years old and have spent half my life working low-level blue collar jobs. I know that many people have no interest or desire to learn much of anything, let alone how to solve a Rubik's cube, but I don't believe these same people are literally incapable of it. I'm sure I would have failed your "stupid" test if all you gave me was a 10-minute explanation of how the cube moves. I don't learn like that, I need a lot of hands-on tinkering.

There are many different kinds of 'clever'. And you are clearly not on 'my stupid list.' I am a mechanic by trade, and the best, most skilled, most knowledgable man I work with can barely read or write.

Ima cow by trade.

OT: I love what people are saying and, although I've been stuck at 45 for literally 6 weeks, I am determined to struggle on! My current goal is to be sub40 by May. I think that if one day I actually achieve sub30 then it's proof that *anybody* (well mentally capable and all that) can achieve sub30.

Just take your sweet time and enjoy the ride. If I managed it, then I bet anybody can. Unless you're the type that bins stuff when the going gets tough (but I doubt you're that type of person based on your posts), then you'll be there soon enough ;) Sub 25 will be your next goal, but that one's so far away from where I am atm...even if I never reach that level, I'll still continue solving. Having a blast with CN atm even though it's pretty hard.

yeah I gotta just have fun and not worry about how fast or slow i'm improving! I'm CN - I started learning white bias but about a week after I could solve on my own, I tried cross on a different color and I couldn't do it lol! I hated that "constricted" feeling, so I immediately went CN.

Kudos man, I didn't start until recently and 1.5 years of white cross only is a habit that is hard to break. I initially started practicing CN pretty early on too, but figured that a standard cross colour would be more efficient in the long run...oh well. Time is on my side.
