Hello,

I finally got sub20... On a Japanese color scheme.

Last weekend I visited Erik, and we both made ourselves a cube with a Japanese color scheme for fun. Today I tried an average and got 18.16. Too bad I had two bad times over 20, it could have been sub18 easily.. :). Oh well...

Anyone else ever tried on random colorschemes?

P.S.: I bet Erik will beat me at this. He's pretty much color neutral, thanks to the megaminx, I would guess.

oh god its terrible. When I make cross on a different side my times go up by at least 10-15 seconds... OLL and PLL are not bad, but the F2L... terrible :)

A different color scheme would surely screw me over. But if it at least has white, then maybe it wouldnt be too bad

Wow... reading a post by Joel saying "finally sub20" is a new thing. I just did a couple of different color cross solves, and my best was 20.77. My times range a huge amount though.

Just got a 19.44, so w/e.

Sorry Joel, I just tried 15 solves and my RA is now 15.50...(best time is 12.66 :) ) although I got a slightly different scheme now than you have. I have white next to yellow, red next to orange, blue next to green. So that's white opposite red, yellow opposite green, and orange opposite blue. In essence it doesn't matter that much I think.. I started on blue by the way to keep it a little more japanese ;)

Mefferts Limited Edition cube here with the white opposite red scheme.

I'll have a Mefferts Collector's Edition cube at the Pleasantville competition which will give me the white opposite blue color scheme; can't wait! :)

You solve with Yellow often, so you have some extra practice ;) Very nice avg though.

Nakaji is also pretty good with normal colour scheme...we switched cubes and I was using his Japanese colour scheme...so confusing XD

Rama, how is that speedcubing kit? Is it worth buying?

With yellow is almost the same as with white, you solve the same combinations of colours for the F2L and LL is also no difference, that's why opposite cross is so easy :) (plus I always did it since I was about 20 sec average which helps!)

Well I talked with Dave Hedley Jones about it at the Worlds and he said it is the new type of cubes from the new mold, so after the DIY cubes are sold out at rubiks.com these cubes wil be the new DIY cubes.
So you can wait for it, but you will have to built it from scracht again like the real DIY cubes.

I have to say it is handy, but I prefer the ''old'' Rubiks DIY, the springs of the newer ones are a bit less springy and it comes with just a little bit of cube lube(cube lube is very handy for new cubes it breaks in almost immediatly, I use it for the first week of all my new cubes and later I clean the cubies and just use silicone).
