I ordered from 9spuzzles for two type D's and a type A over a month ago, and they finally came in the mail. I put the type A together and I have to say I like it a lot better than my type A 3rd model, but that's not what I'm trying to say in this thread. So anyway, the type D came assembled already so I didn't really bother taking it apart when I first got it and just played around with it. I have to say, I kinda of prefer it over the type A because it just feels more smoother and seems easier to make all the pieces align properly. Well after a few hours of playing I decided that it was about time to change the cores to the type A core (I ordered 8 of them xD). So in my black type D. I actually got the old core (white one, or is this the new one?) and I found that pretty interesting. I pop out the caps and I found the old type D screws, and I thought that was pretty sweet. I have yet to put the type A core but it'll be done within the next hour. On my other type D, the green one, I pop out an edge piece and was a bit dissapointed to see the new type core (black), but when I pop out the cap, the shape of the screw is the same as the old ones, only the material looks different. I just took the screws out of both of them and they shape and stuff look the exact same. I think maybe the manufacturers of the type D finally realized that their customers didn't like their new screws, hahaha.
Here are some pics.

I thought I read somewhere that the old cores were white and the new ones are black. And also, the bad new screws weren't completely round; the edges were flat. There was a post before that showed how to fix the problems the new screws caused by using loctite. I actually just used loctite on both the old and new screws just to make sure they don't come out, haha

The screws you got were the old ones, 9spuzzles sells all their type Ds with old screws according to what people have been saying.

And from what i remember, the old core is the white one while the black is new..though I'm not so sure.

AND...TYPE A 3RD MODEL ROCKS!!!

so is it just me or are both set of screws the same, minus the metal that they are made out of (the green set had a goldish tint to them, and the black ones had a greyish tint to them). Dae_Ja_Voo, I was looking at your thread you made a long time ago about using the loctite, and the new screws you had seemed to have a different top to the old ones, while for me, they were both the same shape. Feel so happy that I got these screws instead of the bad ones X], but I still used some threadlock just to make sure they don't fall apart haha. Just waiting for it to dry now. Oh, is it just me or does threadlock melt the cubies? I had some excess coming off the screws and they touched the center cube piece, and when i wiped it off, i got black goo and green goo >.<. I just wiped off all the excess thread lock now. Doubt it'll affect the performance in any way.

Yeah, white is the old core, black is the new one :)

Dude, you are mad lucky to get the old screws. I wish i had a few sets of those screws :(
Use your old screws and replicate them. Ask a hardware store to replicate them by making a mold and melting iron in it....

haha, I'm pretty sure I made a thread asking somebody to do that with their good type D screws. Does almost every hardware do this? I might actually do it, but a big part of me doesn't want to take apart my cube now. It's just so sexy that I don't think I could let myself to unscrew it. They type d + type a core is so nice >.<
