I've been cubing for 2 months and just yester day was averaging around 36 secs.

I did some intense training today including PLL time attacks and just now I did an average of ten and got a 29 sec average with no lucky solves!

when do you think progress will stall

1. cross
2. Fridirich F2L
3. OLL 2 look
4. PLL

Since you're using 2look OLL, it depends on the rate at which you learn the rest of the OLLs. I'm basically the same as you, started 1.5 months ago, average 30 seconds, ~20/57 OLLs learned. However, I'm a little annoyed at myself for not learning some good F2L algs earlier on (I'm mainly using intuitive F2L based on badmephisto's guides).

Using past performance as an indicator of future progress, I guess we can expect sub-25 average within about 2 months -- that's assuming maintaining the current amount of practice daily. Then sub-20 will take at least another 1.5-2 months after that. Once sub-20, it becomes increasingly difficult and progress tends to slow dramatically, as you approach the limit of your technique. Of course, those with more potential will still plow on through onto sub-15 ... which I like to think of as a beautiful, hidden garden surrounded by high terrace fences ... the secret society of the elites :D OK I'm weird :p

Yeah I tried to post a vid from a phone but it didnt work so it will be a while before I get a webcam and I can post vids

Didn't Yu Nakajima himself learn entire Fridrich in two months (October '06), and was like already sub-20 during that time? I think I read it on his website somewhere.

October 2006 -- Started speedcubing.
October 2007 -- Became world champion.

Damn.

My progress was like

Old method = LBL + keyhole2L

End of March - started learning Fridrich

1 week after - completely memorized 2-Look OLL and 2-Look PLL, first timed solve = sub 1:30

1 week after - jumped from sub 1:30 to sub-48
(finally optimized intuitive F2L to 3-8 moves except for weird cases, and mastered <8 move sub-3 cross)

1 week after - jumped from sub-48 to sub-40
(after practicing conscious look-ahead in F2L, grabbed some algs for weird cases)

1 week after - jumped from sub-40 to unstable sub-30
(better F2L look-ahead, faster F2L execution..finally stopped watching the cubies)

1 week after - jumped from unstable sub-30 to unstable sub-25 (consistent sub-30)
(finally moved to 1-look PLL, practiced F2L with metronome, started grinding some F2L algs)

And then, getting past unstable sub-25 to unstable sub-20 (consistent sub-25) as the biggest hurdle IMO.

The reason I think I'm constantly improving is because I don't do "blind practicing", where I just grind solves one after the other, but instead constantly try to find something to improve and work on that (except for learning all OLLs, I'll do that later :p). I have a friend who started the same time as me and is still sub-60, because all he does is solve all day, which I think grinds his bad habits (such as his sloppy 15-20 move F2L) even more into his system.

And I'm currently stuck, because I can't figure out how to improve further without memorizing the OLLs (which I think is unnecessary yet, until I hit stable sub-20).

January I started solving the cube, but after 3 days I stopped it, school was serious. I never got a cube until late march, and then realized from sub90 I was sub60 already without even holding a cube for 2 months I was like wtf.

Mid-april I became sub 55.

May I became sub 45. First week of may I stumbled upon the fridrich method on net and tried f2l. 2 weeks later I memorized all PLLs and 7 COLLs. That time I became sub 40. A week after I became sub 35. Then the week after that, this week, I became sub 30. I'm like, 1-3 days to sub-25 supremacy.

NP.

I started cubing after figuring the cube out myself last august (I had already solved 4x4x4 and 2x2x2 during the summer, and when I got a 3x3x3 it took just a day or so to solve it). In two weeks I could average around 3 minutes, and after finding some algs from the internet, I got down to 2:15 average in Finnish Open, and got my 1:40.00 record. After a month or so, after developing my method a little further, I got my first sub-60, and a few weeks after that. By the end of October, my average was around 45s, and I started learning intuitional fridrich F2L. In Finnish cube meeting in november, I averaged around the same with intuitional fridrich F2L and four-look-LL (if I remember, i knew 9 OLL, two for edges and seven for corners, U-, A- and T-perms). I averaged sub-30 for the first time in february, and broke the 20-second barrier with a 19.91sec single in Helsinki Open february 23rd. The last cornerstone was sub-25 average and sub-15 lucy case a few weeks ago. I currently use intuitional fridrich F2L and 3-look CFOP-LL (I know 35/57 OLL), with some additional twists, and my best average is 23.51 seconds and non-lucky single is 17.14 sec.

So when I compare this to yours, it seems that you've got better much faster than I have, even though I've practiced a lot in these 10 months. I think I couldn't have advanced as fast as you, even if I hadn't done my own research with the cube, and just leanred everything with internet guides. Good job!. I think I'll see your name here soon.

But the stupid thing is I live in NZ and don't know of any comps and so unless there is one in Auckland I aint exactly planning on leaving the country or even the city to go to a comp. Its kind of hard especially at my age (don't ask how old I am you won't believe it)
