How to Get Faster at 5x5?

I have about a 3:02 average 5x5 time. I use a white V-Cube, but my 3x3 reduction time is terrible (I do about 41 sec average on a 3x3 but for reduction on larger cubes about a minute) which I am working on right now. For edges I use the "advanced" method of keeping centers sliced. For centers, I connect an edge center, connect a 1x1x2 bar, another 1x1x2 bar, and finally a 1x1x3 bar. What am I doing wrong? How can I get a 2:45 or below average? My PB right now is 2:54:84

You might want to try to be able to switch between 1x2-2x2-2x3-3x3 and 1x3-2x3-3x3, making use of the oppurtunities you get. For the rest, just practise.

Uhm... 5x5 V-Cube is perfect (I've got a 5x5 qj, it's terrible!).
For pairing the edges I use Nakajima's method. i suggest you this because is easy and fast:

There were much algoritms for pairing last 2 edges on the Nakajima's site, I don't know where are they now
