Hmm… this is different from how I got sub20. For context, I average low-mid 18s.
1. Yes, I agree you need good hardware- I have a Moyu Rs3m v5 SE (uv maglev and ballcore edition).
2. I learned full pll and oll (outside of some of the dot cases), and I’d say my f2l solutions are a bit more advanced than most people my speed- but still basic. Cross is probably similar.
3. I turn really slow- most of the time mid/high 3 tps I think, though I occasionally get 4 tps (this is why my f2l is a bit more advanced and why I know oll- my turning sucks so I have to make up for it with being more efficient).
So yeah, there are definitely more than one path to sub20, but yours is probably better, because most people have faster turning than me.

Spoiler: PS: Why my turning is bad

The main reason my turning is so slow is because I have radial longitudinal deficiency type 4 of my right arm. I only have 4 fingers on my right hand (though I was born with ten, my thumb was removed, and my index stitched in its place), and they are stiff and weak. My hand is also bent in (around 60 degrees, I think). Basically this means I have very weird fingertricks and have to do a lot of regrips and have very awkward way of holding the cube.

I average 4-5 TPS with a 16-17 second global. You need to have either more efficient solutions (I average 60-70 moves per solve) or have faster turning with less efficiency.

I saw that a lot of members here are not sub-20, and while i have a compilation thread for a bunch of tips, i’ve decided to make a sub-20 thread so that this reaches as many not-sub-20 solvers as possible. Here’s what you should know before following this guide:
Know 2-look OLL and PLL
Solve cross in 8 moves or less
Know intuitive F2L
Know basic fingertricks

note: these are all in order of what you should learn first to what you should learn last.

How do you know I sometimes sit for a few seconds thinking about a move you have lookahead and turn fast obviously way more but me have to look for 2 seconds and can barely turn and fight the cube allt

I'm just below 15s on average with around 4 TPS. Sometimes 3.5 TPS.
