How long did it take for you to get sub 20 seconds?

Just got my first sub 20 average the other day. 2 years 4 months.

But thats not really sub 20, just a really good average. I need to be consistently sub 20. ;)

sth. like 8.5 years for me.
that's from when I first solved a cube using a bad beginners method to my first sub-20 avg of 100 a couple of days ago.
but actually I didn't know of speedcubing for a very long time and then stuck to my beginners method until 2 years ago.

I got my first rubik's cube in May 2007, but I didn't start cubing until later in the summer. It was last half of July when I started 'speedcubing'.

And the first day that I timed myself was 20.07.2007 and best avg of 12 was: 56,99 sec

and first sub20 avg of 12: 17.05.2008 19,78 sec.

So about a year after I got my first cube and about 10 months after I started to time myself.

Man.. I've been cubing for this long already

4 years 9 months for my first sub-20 average. I got my first sub-20 single probably a year and a half before that.

Chris

I'm just glad to know that I'm not the only "slow learner" here... I think it's because I'm older, and that I don't have as much time to dedicate, but I've been cubing seriously for about 3 years now, and I'm slowly starting to get sub-20 consistently. My slowest solves are around 23-24 seconds, but getting sub-20, I seem to float around the 20 second mark.

Chris, how long was it in your cubing career did you start BLD? I think I want to start trying because I know I have an awesome visual memory, I know I can do it... but I have no idea where to even start. (I can research on my own, just haven't tried yet)

About 3 months to get under sub 20.

Do you mean with OH ;) , I can't wait to meet you again .

Me ? Until now I get sub 20 ONLY at home; most of the time after cooking or ironing, but I still hope it will be happen on the official competitions. Do I have take my kitchen to the competition ?

I've been cubing for 13 months and I'm still not even sub-25 yet. (consistently anyway) I'm not as young as most here and don't have that much time to practice and my fingers aren't as fast. Sub-20 singles are becoming more common though now and I've had a few sub-25 averages.

Everyone is different I guess.

Forgive me for bumping, i'm just happy i finally got a sub 20 avg of 100, so i'm spamming that fact in relevant threads :)

On topic: it took my exactly 1 year and 5 days to get a 19.934 avg of 100.

Took me 7 months ish to sub 20 regularly, year and a half on, I'm still not sub 15. Then again, I have just come back from a 4 month cubing break.
