How fast would you consider "fast", "average" or "slow" for solving a 3x3?

I don't really have much information on what the "average" time range is.

I noticed that there are often threads similar to this one and I also have seen sophisticated attempts to categorize cubers by their speed (using percentiles and such), but I don't really see the point of it. The only practical need I can imagine is perhaps for qualifying purposes in WCA competitions, but I don't think we are there yet.

… But some big comps already have qualifying times? (Worlds and US Nationals come to mind.) Most of the qualifying time cutoffs are pretty lax though.

Considering how few comps have qualifying times and that a large number of cubers would consider them slow, I would say it's reasonably clear he meant when we are at the stage a large number (if not most) have some sort of qualifying time before we can really use them to quantify the "speed ranges".

As I peer in from the outside, I think many folks in the "speedsolving" community forget about those who can't (or haven't) spent the time to get sub-30 (or whatever).

I would say many of the times mentioned above are valid ranges for speedsolvers.
but for just those who are "solvers for fun", perhaps: <45 / <60 / 60+ would be fair.

I think any solver will impress a non-cuber even with a solve lasting around a minute.

Perhaps "slow and "fast are too fuzzy of definitions.
What about using terms of skill...

3x3 times:
60+ beginner
<60 competent
<45 proficient
<20 skilled
<10 expert

... thoughts??
