How are Erik/Yu/etc so fast? (was: how do they????)

They probably use algorithmic f2l rather than intuitive. If you can recognize the case in a few milliseconds and sub-1 the algorithm you'll be done with f2l in about 4 seconds.

They don't use algorithms.

What you just said implied that alg-F2L is better, which is in most cases not true.

Intuitive F2L can be used to develop one's own ways of handling cases, and then they are practiced to the point of algorithmic memorization. There are still specialized ways that only intuition can efficiently handle at first, such as an extra pair forming, or something close to that while handling another pair. This is also were look-ahead may help.

I think intuitive is far superior to algorithmic when it comes to F2L. You need the adaptive ability of a human brain in order to analyze and prioritize F2L cases. Rather than just applying algs blindly without letting yourself analyze the position, try to lookahead and predict your next case.

I VERY strongly agree with that statement. That said though, I think that there are a couple of tricky cases where I think you would benefit more from finger friendly algorithms than from pure intuition.

On yu nakajimas website he lists all the algorithms for f2l, so I think thats probably a good indication that he uses them.

Well said. I generally use algs for any case that has corner and edge already paired, just not correctly.

Yes, intuitive of course surpasses algorithmic for F2L... you must admit, though, there are some helpful F2L algs :)

Edit: My new hypothosis -

They are all NINJAS!!!!!

Yep.

oh well... Erik does intuitive, F2L and so do I... of course you start to solve the same cases the same way, but still, it basically is intuitive...

Maybe there are people borned with a basic talent of speed in the fingers!?
Even if I pratice many years I´m shore I cannot do the LL in about 3 seconds. Impossible for me.
